Chess: The sanest thing in an insane world

Ok everyone. I haven't been around the past few days because I've had to take care of a few things, but I am back, and have something I want to share with the community.

This is something that some poeple might agree with, others, might not see it so clearly. i'm not, hopefully, going to start a war over this, but I hope it's something we can all talk about like civilized people, because honestly, the world is not civilized enough.

i've been reading some articles on Yahoo and when I DO watch TV, which is extremely rare nowadays, all I see is chaos and disorder. There are things that the youth of today are being exposed to that are turning them from innocent children to pimps and gangbangers. I was, growing up, listening to music and watching movies that I should not have been listening to and watching. This distorted my view of the world and turned me away from innocence and on to the straight line of chaos. Television these days, moreso in this country is just full of adultery and lust and people are so desensitized to adult content and thinking all of this is right, and if you don't do these things, you're going to be looked down and frowned upon by society. Why not go outside, music blaring, the bass on a car radio so loud it rattles nearby windows of houses with your pants around your ankles? I don't see the attraction to it at all. But there are millions that do. Girls too young looking like call girls. I'm not going to turn this into a relgious sermon but are people blind to all this by choice or is it because the world tells you to do this and it's ok? I have stopped watching television, stopped watching movies and grown men hit a baseball or throw a football for $10 million a year while this country has starving children and poverty and a major problem just dealing with life itself. This is where chess comes in.

Chess is civilized and controlled. It is the greatest game ever created. Each piece moves the same way all the time, it's controlled, there is nothing disgusting or immoral about it. It is a safe activity that can bring people together and teach children patience and focus and to learn how to you use their minds for something other than video games or mind-numbing IQ dropping television, or perhaps instead of throwing on distasteful music, they'll pick up a chess book or play chess with their parents or friends, learning something.

Like I said, I'm sure to be getting some flak for all this and making it sound like a sermon, but it's not. I just feel like people should be aware of what their children are doing once they leave the house. But it's not just children, adults are feeding it, because they themselves are losing their identity. Now I know why people become a recluse, or decide to join a monastery, because they can't take all the chaos of the world and all the war and bloodshed.

Chess has taught me a lot. It's teaching me tolerance, patience, focus and a will to want to better myself in life and taking me away from spending 3 or 4 hours watching overpaid jocks and horrible television sitcoms. Now I'm not perfect and I'm not preaching to others TO be perfect. Just be aware of what's going, and maybe by teaching people chess, not just kids, you'll help in what seems to be a losing battle for the youth of this world. Thanks.

Mark, I had no idea you wrote something like this, but you already know how I feel about the continuing decline of society the world over, so you know I totally agree with this. Granted---chess isn't the only good game, but it's certainly one of, if not THE most challenging game around. Great blog, honey :)

Well, I just thought to put this out there and if people think I am a crackpot or a loon, well, go right ahead, because I am. Just look at the world today, and try to be objective, and see what this world does not want you to see. Then get back to me  Smile
