I think letters to congressmen and to companies that have business interests in Sudan are more likely to have an effect.
The UN has always been innefective because 5 countries have veto power and commercial interests often prevail over human rights concerns.

Hey, Daemon_Panda, why not set up an online petition? I doubt that it´ll do much, but then again it can´t hurt.

"I'm am not sure if this falls under the 'discriminated' topic of politics," If this isn't politics I would be interested to see what is.
Anyway, if you do set up a petition I will be happy to sign it.
What's the AU? I've heard of several different definitions of this acronym, but none of them seem to fit this term.
Secondly, how much do you want the world leaders to do? We are practically invading the Middle East, and we don't have an infinite amount of troops. (We referring to both the U.S. and the U.N.) I agree with you, but I think that we need to get out of the Middle East first. Also, we can't help everybody. You do what you can for who you can when you can, but you can't do anything else.
Oh, and if you are trying to find a company that has business interests in Sudan, good luck. Companies would rather stay in Iraq because they have oil and Sudan has no resoources that we need.
If you start a petition, I'll sign it. :)

If you write a form letter anyone who want to can sign and send it in by email or mail. There are many who are not US citizens on this site so you may also want to include a non US letter version. Generally you will get more letters if you include the email or real address where it needs to go.

I made an error; I ment to write EU instead of AU. This error has now been fixed.
I'm in the middle of drafting a nice long letter for President Bush. I am thinking of teaming up with a friend (The same guy who edited the Desuno posts in the rp) who writes just as good as me. I'll then have my English III teacher look it over. It will probably be mistake free after that.
I'm am not sure if this falls under the 'discriminated' topic of politics, but I do know one thing, genocide cannot be permitted. The area known as Darfur, located east of Sudan, is being purged by the Sudanese government, displacing thousands of innocents and killing countless others. So far the UN and AU have done little to supply aid to the thousands of poor living in the area. Villages that were once filled with laughter and happiness are now hushed up and filled with fear; at least, those cities that weren't destroyed and burnt to the ground, the inhabitants shot and murdered, babies lying dead in the streets, innocent women and children raped before being left to die, their hearts pumping their life blood out onto the hot dusty streets. The homes are completely wreaked, burnt to the ground by raiders hired by the government of Sudan. Those that are not decimated by raiders are obliterated by Sudanese attack helicopters that fire rockets and cluster bombs filled with shrapnel; weapons that are aimed at innocent civilians who have lived happy lives for so long. Bodies are shredded beyond recognition by the shrapnel and the helicopter's machine guns. All that remains of them is blood, seeping into the sand, a life, a human being, gone forever.
This reign of terror has been going on for 5-6 years now, and even the shining examples of our society, the UN and the AU, refuse to give aid, just like the U.S.
Are we all insane, leaving innocent families stranded without a lifeline to hold on to, at least for those who are alive to grab a hold of one? Should we have left the 11,000,000 imprisioned races and creeds to die in World War II prision camps, or left alone the innocent Iraqi minorities to finally, after thousands of years, be extinguished by their enemies?
And what of Chinese religious minorities, hunted and murdered by the masses at the hands of the Chinese Government? What of the hundreds of thousands of hated people that I haven't mentioned, living similar lives amongst death, desolation, and destruction? Shall we leave them all to die?
Two years ago, I wrote a letter to President Bush telling him to do something about this situation, or I would raise hell. I think it is long past the time for me to keep my promise to the Commander in Chief of the U.S. But I need your help. Help by organizing rallies and fund raisers, protests, what ever could help. Most of all, I am calling on ALL the members of chess.com to write a joint letter, signed by ALL of us, to be mailed directly to the president.
Please, I am calling on your sense of humanity, help!!!
