question. I was playing someone and in the last 10 sec ever time they made a quick move time was added. what's up with that?

I think you might be referring to “premoves.” In a live chess game, if you enable premoves, you’ll be able to select your next move before your opponent makes his/hers. If the selected move is legal, then your piece will automatically be moved immediately and will save time. I’d recommend only doing this for recaptures.
