In the above Don Randi video, it's noteworthy that he mentions that he played keyboards on Neil Diamond's Cracklin' Rosie and they did it at Armin Steiner's studio. Armin Steiner, a classically trained violinist who engineered songs for artists like Glen Campbell, Neil Diamond, the Fifth Dimension, Bread, Heart, Dolly Parton, Johnny Rivers, Hall & Oates, Helen Reddy and Barbra Streisand, was the son of concert pianist Selma Steiner and US chess champion IM Herman Steiner. In fact Armin's direction as a recording engineer was fueled by his father's hobby of disc recording in the early 1950s.
Come on guys!

Brian Wilson said that Pet Sounds was inspired by Rubber Soul. Both Wilson and John Lennon said that St. Pepper was a direct response to Pet Sounds.

I am a man with two degrees, an MA, a PhD, and two kids in their mid-late 20's. If my kids were 17-18, I would advise them not to go to university. What is the point of loading yourself with debt in exchange for woke brainwashing?
Well, I must admit that you are an example of why not to seek an education.

I disdain and dismiss anyone who speaks in epithets, slogans, catchwords or from some political soapbox, particularly someone who claims to be educated.

Well, someone's on the ball.
I am a man with 10 degrees, 6 PhDs, three Nobel prices, 5 cars, 4 houses, 3 wives and 2 sets of twins in my mid-twenties. If my kids were in there 17-18 I would advice them to not go to university and become millionaires like me, instead of being fed by the woke Hollywood, Big Pharma popaganda. Hell yeah 'Murica!

Do your 3 wives also have multiple husbands? #peppasupportspolyamory

Making clickbait topics and then being rude to people who politely reply just seems like bog-standard internet trolling to me.
Much like how the topic has nothing at all to do with the content is reminiscent of a rickroll, except with Beach Boys videos.
I see little that distinguishes this from what the other kids are doing.
But it's a free country, and you can spend your time however you wish.

Another satisfied customer.

I see no conflict. The topic title is ambiguous and your opening statement is just a hello. You obviously wanted to talk music. Can't see it as clickbait. Music topics are always welcome
It was simply about 2 things I encountered that day that I wanted to share... a news story and an amazing concert back in 1965. Due to my particular circumstances, I never had the opportunity to attend college and seeing that boys are falling into a trend of avoiding higher education struck me as sad, so I wanted to express my opinion that those who have the opportunity should take advantage of it. Some might, and apparently do, disagree...which is ok.
But you're right, in that I know more about music than college, so the flow of the thread trailed in that direction and finally narrowed as I started looking deeper into the Wrecking Crew about whom I only had a superficial knowledge before I created this thread (so the creation of this thread morphed into a deep learning experience for myself). I posted the videos I watched that I found especially worthwhile on the subject and now I'd like to recommend a book I just finished: "The Wrecking Crew: The Inside Story of Rock and Roll's Best-Kept Secret"
by Kent Hartman..
Contrary to what my critic suggested, I was never rude to anyone who posted politely, on topic or didn't inject his political jargon into the comment. The content is in Off-Topic where it belongs and unlike the "rickroll" (unlike my critic, I don't care for these silly terms) content he compares this with, the thread is purposeful, directed, focused and informative to anyone interested in the subjects discussed.

Why are the Beach Boys videos the exception? While the ones dealing specifically with the Beach Boys are good, which is why I selected them, actually the most informative ones for music and music history lovers by far are those of drummer Hal Blaine, pianist Don Randi and bassist Carol Kaye (to which I just posted links), but since you don't seem to realize that, your criticisms are based of assumptions rather than insight.

I don't think it's bait it's just that education is 100 percent political in the UK.
I don't know anything about the educational system in the UK. Why do you say it's 100% political? Are you talking about brainwashing or limitations on what one can study?
I imagine all education systems are flawed to a degree since what is taught, how it is taught, what isn't taught is all dictated by someone or someones but I would imagine the ultimate goal of education, as opposed to training, is to develop graduates capable of clear thinking and discernment and such individuals would eventually arrive at whatever truths they find compatible with their thinking regardless of whatever they had been fed in the educational process. The ones that can't would probably been led by the nose by someone eventually anyway.

I am uninterested in your musical tastes/opinions, your likes and dislikes, your favourite potted houseplant, your favourite TV show, etc etc.
That is rather idiosyncratic, whereas education is more of a general interest.
I think that I know 2 people in life who enjoy the Beach Boys. And fair play to them, but I wouldn't call it a general interest.
But you have ascertained that a bunch of white and black people initially created rock and roll in America. So well done, I guess? (although I did believe this to be common knowledge)
It would appear that you mixed your interests, and it's become a bit jumbled.
Lmao this is her own blog, she can post whatever and however she likes, be it her musical preferences or knowledge to share with people who may find it interesting (I did). If that's not your case then just move on.
And to call the Beach Boys something that's not a general interest, I can't even 🤦🏻♂️

This is the Off Topic Forum which exists to allow members to post whatever they want within the established guidelines. Whether you like the topic or how it's presented is about as irrelevant as something can be. Making yourself the arbiter of what others might find interesting is presumptuous to say the least. (as it is, a LOT of people are interested in classic Rock and Roll and have strong opinions relative to the topic). I'm sure there are topics here that interest you. Wouldn't it make more sense to post in those rather than in one whose direction (music vs education - it could have gone either way and I'd have been just as happy) you disapprove?

I don't have time for lengthy chats during the week.
As regards the bolded? Nope. I addressed your rudeness towards someone contributing to the discussion.
Last time I was here, there was a decent chat about "elites and the 1%". Nobody lost their reason, blocked, reported, felt a need to ""disdain and dismiss" each other as you call it (that's actually called "petulance"), etc etc despite having completely opposed viewpoints. "I don't like you. You're not my friend" is nursery school level. The bottom of disagreement hierarchy.
Civilized discussion between adults over real adult topics is not difficult at all. But that was months back, and many people say standards have dropped.

Regarding the Beach Boys and that genre:
"We gotta rock rock rock around that clock toniggghhtht"
And
"Good golly miss molly golly golly"
Isn't my cup of tea. I don't think it's aged well at all. Different tastes. Modern music has little in common with the 1950's stylistically, musically, or otherwise.
The last band I had as an avatar were apparently sampled by the rapper Trae tha truth. The current one was apparently sampled by Gucci Mane and Kanye West. Apparently rap producers seem to have some decent taste in music - this is ripping stuff off and it's often an inability to write good music.
You wanted opinions on education, then asked for my opinion on music. If you dislike general opinions (and it was a very standard opinion for England), better to ask less questions, make blogs rather than forums, or create fandom topics (Beach Boys, K-pop, etc) rather than general interest topics. Easy.
Very long but worth it
