Since when can a thread about trolls be serious?
When it asks a question that delves into the intricacies of the inner workings of the chess.com community.

Yep, its a serious thread categorized off-topic
That's because I voluntarily started it under off topic. On chess.com, off topic by definition means non-chess related; however it's clearly ridiculous to say that anything that's not chess-related is not serious.
This is a serious question guys! Does anyone who has been around long enough to know what I'm talking about care to weigh in?
Sometimes I think that the staff give us too much freedom with these forums....But then, I remember how much fun it is to read!

Are you also going to compare the guy who made the parham thread, stating that it was the best opening and no one could refute it?
Please don't start with that one again
That one not only was a locked but also produced multiple other popular threads about the parham that were locked also
Maybe Daeth is just a cooler name than..... whatever he's called. Can't remember.
That might have been one of the contributing factors. Both Daeth's name and the name of the thread that he started were very... catchy. However, even though petermh5's name isn't as memorable, the title of his thread was also pretty catchy - it was simple and straightforward, yet something that don't normally say, and it encapsulated the main idea of his thread pretty well. The wording of the title was often discussed in the thread itself, which to a certain extent reflects its... catchiness, for lack of a better word.

True. But it still was a major thread that many considered to be a troll thread, with thousands(?) of posts.
Do you guys think it might have to do with how Daeth left chess.com in a dramatic way - by closing his account and thus having his thread deleted? And as a result, we were left with the feeling that the Daeth saga was still, in a way, unfinished, and we subconsciously immortalized him in our minds? Petermh5, on the other hand, just faded away. He kept his account, and, juding from his last online date, is still active, but (to my knowledge) never posted on the forums again.

Yes, I just noticed that too! I was gonna come here and tell everybody, but it seems that you noticed before me!
If his comment on that thread is indicative of the general kind of comments that he's gonna be making, we're in for a troll fest people!
O, nvm, I just noticed that the link isn't the one to the thread I was thinking about. Here's the thread I saw his posting on:

Ok... so I'll assume that everyone knows who Daeth is. And I'm sure pretty much everyone who has been around long enough knows who Petermh5 is, but just can't recall off the top of their head. So just as a reminder, Petermh5 is the guy who started this thread:

I think it is accurate to say that both of these guys were one hit wonder trolls who created one thread that generated a huge amount of activity and discussion on the chess.com forums. But despite their similarities, the legacies of these two trolls on the chess.com forums are very different. Despite having left chess.com, and having his thread deleted, Daeth continues to be widely remembered today, along with the opining that he invinted. In fact, when GeorgeBlackChess created the wayback machine thread a couple of days ago, one of the first things that people did with it was find Daeth's thread. Petermh5, on the other hand, seems to have long since been forgotten by the chess.com community. For about a month after he created his thread, the scale of attention that it attracted was comparable to that of the Daeth thread, and as far as I've seen, to this date it is the last thread to have ever attracted such attention. Yet ever since his thread was locked, I have never seen a single mention of him anywhere on the forums.
So the question here is, why? How could two very similar trolls, each of whom created one of the most classic threads in modern chess.com history, differ so much in the degree of lasting influence that they have?
