So, is your wellbeing more important than somebody else's?

Let's say you could murder someone and steal an astonishing amount of money, and get away with it. Let's say you would then use some of that money to vastly benefit the poor and underprivileged. Would this be right? And if so, or if not, why?

No. Murder is the ultimate harm to well being. And living in a society where such is justification for murder would ultimately cause a society that does more harm than good.

And also, when you have to strain yourself to come up with absurd scenarios that will never happen to test the limits of secular morality, that’s a feature of secular morality. Not a liability.

Yes. It is my opinion that moral behaviors enhance well being, just as it’s your opinion that moral behaviors follow the Bible. (This of course is setting aside the fact that you “re-interpret” parts of the Bible your secular moral sense disagrees with).

So what if I choose my moral standard and say that life should be 'Look out for number one.' Why is yours better than mine?

Because we all share space and actions have consequences. The well being of the people in a society under that system would be vastly inferior to those under a system that considers fairness and the well being of all.

@jaredjm, if you found out for certain there is no god, would you then turn into an A-hole, only looking out for yourself?

Why shouldn't he if there is no God?

Obviously I just said it. If you disagree then you’re free to make your case.

As for “who” defines well being, there is already a common understood definition. Put it this way... pretend for a moment you’re not desperately trying to poke holes in secular morality... the understanding of what is meant by “well being” that you would unquestionably adopt without having to ask, use THAT one. 👍

lol I'm not 'desperately' trying; it's quite easy to poke holes in it.

Why would your definition of morality be better than mine, for example if I said something like in 1193

So easy in fact you haven’t even began. I already answered your question in 1194.

a. what if I don't care about other people

b. why would I? should I? just for the stability of society?

Avatar of LHCSaraB

There is no reason to care for others without God. Why not be be a self-centered 'A-hole'? What if I want to be?

a. Then we don’t agree on morality (and you’re an anomaly) What if I don’t care what your Bible says? Woops, same problem. Looks like religion-based morality doesn’t solve 💩

b. Because we all have to share space and the betterment of society benefits all of us.

In my opinion if the only thing stopping you from being a 💩head is the belief in god, then you’re still a 💩head. As for ME, I choose to be kind to people just for the sake of it. If YOU need to believe in heaven and hell just to be a good person, then I hope you continue to believe. And that’s really pathetic and sad.

So you'd agree that you really have no reason, other than you just feel it's better.

I personally wouldn't do the stuff I mentioned, but I was showing you that you have no means of refuting it.

Yes, I agree that the basis for BOTH, my AND YOUR morality are just our opinions. 👍

You have no means of refuting it, either. And why wouldn’t you do that stuff (if you knew there is no god)?

The more horrendous stuff I would feel was wrong, but again, I would have no basis for that. I certainly would be more 'free' in many of my actions. But I know there is a God, who will hold me accountable for my actions.

You mean it might free you to ignore parts that have NO reasoning besides “the Bible says”? Good!

IF you mean by my opinion that the Bible is the true and holy inspired Word of God, then yes, that'd be true.
