Unlike the the new mRNA vaccines that are 95% effective, the traditional vaccines are more like 70%-80%...which is enough for herd immunity if everyone (or 90%+) gets vaccinated. Since the UK is using AstraZeneca, it means even more trouble if the virus is allowed to keep circulating and mutating than it does in the US where most people are getting Pfizer or Moderna.
