Glad to hear idilis is not on a ventilator.

The ventilator is also pleased I hear

Strangely enough 5 hours after I made this crack, my dad had to be put on one in ICU owing to breathing difficulties unrelated to covid-19. I had to remote manage it with my kid on the ground since my mom was in panic. They told us to expect the worst. But now he's out of critical condition. The man just refuses to let go at 90 🙂. Meanwhile my kid has an interview in 5 hours and went to sleep just 3 hours ago. Home quarantine has not been boring in the least. Thank goodness for Whatsapp and good network connectivity.

Perhaps just not familiar with metropolitan city life where space is limited, public transport and housing are normal and people are busy.

Ignorance is not an excuse, especially in the case of world pandemics...

The position that Covid-19 is not dangerous or a big deal (whether before, or now) is not really defensible, ultimately.

I have never been a fan of the "well, they just don't know any better" point of view...that's probably apparent at this point happy.png. If someone grows up in the jungles of Borneo, it's one thing...if you grow up in the US, you have a responsibility to "know better".

Its because of the attention span problem. Young people just don't remember how bad it was 2-3 yrs ago. angry Man, that was depressing.....nobody would go out, nobody would go anywhere.....everything was closed....and we watched the news as the numbers climbed every night. God bless medical people & 1st responders....cry

Thanks man. As I grow older I just realized and accept that most things (related to family and friends) are out of my control and just concentrate on the fallout management. I've moved from being the plan A guy to the plan B guy.

Wow, a rare serious post from idilis.

Sorry to hear that about your dad.

Thanks man. But like I said he's 90. He's lived a full healthy life. Now he's had dementia for 3 years (happened after his last hospitalization for a fall) and isn't the person he used to be. So we're somewhat prepared.

Unsure why I'm over sharing but maybe it's the quarantine getting to me or the frustration of not being able to be on the ground to handle all this in person like I normally do.

Maybe you're just loving your dad more..... nothing wrong with that. wink

Similar situation with my dad, dementia for many years, he's still living at home though. He's in his 70s. Losing them before they're actually gone... I know a bit about that.

No problem with "over" sharing happy.png

My kid was telling me that when he regained consciousness the only voice he responded to was mine over the video phone and she wondered why. I told her we never forget the person who gives us the most pain. She laughed and said she hopes she's that person for me. I assured her she was.

At least now officially they are willing to say natural immunity is better than getting the shots.

As for this thread, it is today...Imagine that, talking about today's numbers.

COVID is now a non issue. It has always been a non issue for healthy people under 40.

Yes, the life of the party is back!

And yes again.

"The problem of saying 'I'm gonna get infected to get immunity' is you might be one of those people that end up in the hospital or die," said Christopher Murray, the director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington and the study's senior author. "Why would you take the risk when you can get immunity through vaccination quite safely?"

Avatar of paper_llama

"I'm going to get sick to protect myself from getting sick" rather defeats the purpose doesn't it?

I know several people who "recovered" years ago but still suffer from "brain fog."

The vaccine is totally harmless and is an extremely common sense approach in terms of public policy. Political parties with nothing better to do tried to leverage something as mundane as a vaccine to get support. No one with any sense pays attention to such political shenanigans.
