Covid19 and chess around the World!

@IfPatriotGames Sadly, yes because I work at the hospital.
In your area, what percentage of people who get the covid end up getting sick?

I am one of the newcomers you reference. My husband and I used to go out a lot on weekends, but we are now both stranded at home.
I decided to dust off my chess knowledge and reenter the pool. This is something I am very unlikely to have done had not there been a pandemic.
Thank you for bringing up this interesting topic and I hope that a mature discussion continues.

What you say is true as I see many new comers in this online platform!

Means like tournaments ?
It means face to face -- close enough to spread the virus to one another.
Since the competitors can read one another's body language, it adds another dimension to the game. In today's climate, unfortunately, it should not be played with strangers.

It is actually very difficult to spread covid.
When I tested positive for covid I took a chess set to a park and over the course of a week I convinced at least 12 people to play against me.
What they did not know was that I had licked all the pieces beforehand.
Apart from two guys the rest of the people I played showed up at or crossed the same park for the whole week which implies that they were unaffected. Maybe the two no-shows just took a different route home but I would not imagine more than 1 of them getting covid.
It means you have less a less than 10% chance of getting it from OTB with licked pieces and probably a 0.1% without the licked pieces.
These are great odds.

Be sure that due to psychosocial stress the game of high level player will face a negative impact. Not of top levels players, which play automatically, and of low level players, who do not need much concentration and calculations. I believe that high level players are affected and I have a few examples from my own environment.

@Ducking-Duck I hope that was a troll post, otherwise you are without morals or empathy, plain and simple. Actually this may also be evidence for a criminal case, hence I took a screenshot. Are you familiar with the term "asymptomatic spread"? You could have gave every single one of those individuals Covid, and if one of those people died or would have been hospitalized, that would have been entirely on you. Those people that walked in the park could have also been young and asymptomatic, but they could have gone to their homes and infected their parents, who would be more prone to hospitalization and death. I CANNOT believe how people do not understand these simple concepts to this day, and instead decide to be "smarter" than the scientists, by doing their own personal experiments with other people's lives, then posting on an online chess forum in the most casual of manners. I'm going to tell it to you straight mate, educate yourself , you moron, because you will harm people if you haven't done so already. Have respect for people that work in the healthcare field that work to take care of YOU. Have respect for other people's well being.

Thank you for that post, XxDarkKnight402xX. I almost went on a rant against the troll post, but decided to ignore it. I was unable to get it out of my mind.
I am personally at risk and my prospects would be very dire should I be unfortunate enough to catch the virus. It spreads relatively easy. I base this on the information given to me by more than one medical professional.

Apparently our club is using long tables for club nights and using two boards ( one at each end ). Not sure how the clock is being used though.

Sort of like the flu. How many people over their lifetime have had the flu, walked around with it, spread it to others (knowingly or unknowingly) and killed others? Evidence of a criminal case there too?

Ah got it @IfPatriotGames you drank the ignorance is bliss kool-aid. For the flu we have a vaccine, for covid we do not. For flu we do not have a national pandemic, for covid we do. Here is a CDC page that shows you the stats, and lists all flu deaths for every year in the US. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html#:~:text=While%20the%20impact%20of%20flu,61%2C000%20deaths%20annually%20since%202010. Now explain to me how 192,000 deaths in the US is the same as the flu, because to me it seems like the rate is 4 or 5 times more lethal than whatever fake reality you are propagating. Are you going to try to prove why the virus is a hoax now, or why masks are not necessary either? Go ahead , I'll make you look like a fool each and every single time.

Yes. And not everyone gets the vaccine for the flu. For various reasons. So, many people, each year, get the flu. And many die each year of the flu. So, I'll ask again, is walking around with the flu and spreading it to others (knowingly or unknowingly) evidence of a criminal case too?

Again you are equating the flu with covid. This is not reality. I do not see the point in arguing with a nimrod, but to humor you, yes it is criminal. In fact , the deliberate and malicious infection of another individual with covid could result with you being charged with anti-terroism laws as said by the Justice Department itself. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/coronavirus-justice-department-anti-terrorism-laws/ and https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/24/coronavirus-terrorism-justice-department-147821
And no these anti-terroism laws do not apply to the flu, I wonder why.

So in the hundreds of years that people have had the flu, and transmitted the flu, why hasn't anyone been charged with a criminal act? You just said it's criminal. So, why hasn't anyone been charged with a crime? Can you explain why you feel it's criminal, but at the same time, nobody has been charged with a crime?
Of course the flu equates with covid. They are both coronaviruses. They are both contagious. They both can cause illness. They both can cause death. So yes, I equate the covid with the flu (so does everyone else). Why wouldn't anyone equate the two?
I know these are tough questions. But that's why the answers aren't so easy.
