I meant IS Open as for tennis. Sorry. I was vague.

Replace the word golf with the word tennis and my advice is the same.

I’m am old fogey (early 50’s) and making my way towards retirement age. I’m in a great career (Health and Wellness) and love my job. It pays the bills, anyways.

On the other hand, I love creative writing and have several novels going, which I work on in my spare time (whenever I can find some downtime, from my demanding job).

My true dream job would be a novelist, I realize that I am getting older and “running out of time.”

Have been sort of grappling with the idea of quitting my job and going for it, as a writer.

Do you think that I should quit my job and just write my butt off? Or, do you think I should just take the steady paycheck, wait for retirement and take the money and run?

Just curious, to get some feedback on this - thanks! :-)

Great thread, by the way.

Thanks!  I would NOT quit my job this close to retirement but perhaps you could work fewer hours if your boss is flexible.  I would work on one novel at a time, obviously, the novel you're the most passionate about.  Right now, I'm semi-retired and I'm also working on a book for a Christian publishing company.  When writing your novel, I would pay special attention to its structure - do lots of outlines so that it's logical and well-paced and makes sense.  Good luck and keep writing!!!!!

I would say if you’ve the serious LOVE for the writing and the dedication and know it will sell you should go with your wonderful talent of writing and let us know your great success! 👍 How long have you your job, and financially how well are you? If enough to stay comfortable before profiting your published works then follow that talent, is why it’s your talent.

I would STILL advise @ScottLeMuerta to keep his job until he is eligible for retirement - usually, that's age 55 for most companies.

@Pegusu

Thanks so much for your wonderful words of wisdom! You make a lot of sense and I will seriously pray on it (I am also a Christian). Good luck with your writing journey as well! Always an honor to hear advice from another writer. I may just decide to go “semi-retired” myself, cut back my hours a little and balance the two careers. Nothing wrong with doing both. :-)

Thanks again!

@TheBestBeer_Root

Thanks for your reply, as well. :-)

I have worked in my current career nearly seven years. Financially, I am well off and have a healthy retirement fund, which I have invested in, waiting for me when I retire. Come retirement, I will be worth seven figures.

Writing is my passion, though and my dream. Just don’t want to be finding myself over the hill one of these days and wondering what if.

Thanks again - will seriously pray on your comments as well. :-)

Well, given if he’s got quite a knack to write and his love there, and stable enough to handle all till published work provides comfort I’m for his success there, and think he’s the potential for it and he’s the right mindset for sure.

I support this amendment and would want the strict background checks to remain in place.  And America HAS NO superiors! 🇺🇸

Pegusu, as you know, I’m Canadian. I think I drank too much maple syrup. So basically I’m drunk on maple syrup. What do I do??????

I actually googled this but there wasn’t any good advice. However, whenever one is intoxicated, the thing to do is to drink a great deal of water, NOT coffee. And if the maple syrup made you sick to your stomach, NOTHING works better than peppermint tea - whenever, I’m nauseated, it makes me feel better right away.

Well, I was just talking about him leaving the thread; Didn't think he'd close his account. But what was he thinking? Don't ask the question if you can't handle the answer, haha.

Depends on who you ask, and on whether or not they believe in the Big Bang theory or that the universe was created by God. I frankly have no idea, as I am familiar with the Bible and I don’t recall that it ever addresses that particular subject.
