Cindy,

I'd recommend filing a police report and writing down exactly what happened for your own records.

If anything suspicious happens again you will at least have a police report number for a detective or other officer to follow up with.

I deal with police on a weekly basis and a good rule of thumb is the more information you can give them the better they can do their job.

No prob.

Hopefully it's just a friend pulling a prank (a creepy one at that), but better safe than sorry.

I hear ya.

I've met people in similar situations and it's a limbo of sorts.

Best of luck Cindy.

That is very serious Cindy as "scochowll" says report it to the police and face book.

I have had a couple of friends had the same type of thing but not as bad as that.

I hope all works out well and this person gets caught.

Thank you for your input guys.  I guess I will go over there and report the incident.  I feel like I had to disband myself from facebook, which is a bummer because I truly enjoyed it.

Oh, and hello Trysts :)

That sounds really freaky.....I guess putting in a report is a wise thing to do. I'd try to be a little extra alert for awhile if I were you.

Cindy, I read about your incident and see you recieved a lot of good advice that you should follow through on. Face book seems to be so open that eveyone should be careful. Iguess if someone is knowedgeable they can find out aqnything on someone even someones address. Its a shame that people cant get together and have fun because of a few bad people.

Never accept friend invites from people you don't actually know! That's my best advice. And set your privacy settings on facebook to the highest levels possible.

Sorry this happened to you, there are some creepy people out there!

In the Starcraft 2 beta forums, the owners wanted to use RealID for all posters in the forums. That is, you post using your real name. The members were outraged, so one of the developers posted his name on the forums. In a short time, everybody knew where he lived.

Some time after this, a guy posted a thread betting 15$ that nobody can find a personal information of his, besides his adress, if they only knew his name and age. In a matter of hours ( 1 or 2 i think ), a guy found out his adress, phone number, date of birth, a photo of him, and also a photo of his girlfriend.

Conclusion: posting your name on the internet can be dangerous.

Hi Cindy!Smile

Cindy, be very careful! We had a bad case in Australia not long ago.My advise is that if he makes contact in any form report him to the police and they can warn him off.Make sure that your privacy settings on face book are set correctly(get help if you need it). Good luck!

Thank you all for your posts!  I logged in and there were 7 new comments.  You guys are simply awesome.

I will report this, just in case.  I wasn't getting much out of facebook anyway - once you reconnect with old friends you begin to remember why you didn't stay in touch Smile

I used my full name here, but so far everyone has been nice.  But reading the one post about the address and pic of the girlfriend, I wonder if I need an alias.

Hmmmmm.

Thanks again for your posts.

I agree that it's pretty creepy, but I don't see why you should call the police either.  Anytime you have a first and last name on someone it's pretty easy to get an address.  Unless the guy threatened you, which it didn't sound like he did.

You: I'd like to file a police report.

Police:  What happened?

You: A guy told me what my address was.

Police:  Knowing addresses is not a crime.  Did he threaten you?

You: Well, no.

Police:  Has he come to your house before?

You: No...

Police: Does he call your house?

You: No..

Police: What contact have you had with this guy then?

You:  I accepted him as a friend on facebook.  He then asked me to play a game in chess in person and told me what my address was.

Police: This guy sounds like a real sicko.  I'll get a warrant right away maam!

I would be vigilant, as you should always be, but the guy hasn't done anything.

I think you probably don't have to panic, but I'd keep the information, especially the exact transcript if you have it. Unfortunately there's not much the police can do unless there's a real threat, but keep the info handy so you can give it all to them if the guy tries to actually contact you (which I very much doubt will happen).

Definitely creepy. Make sure the people around you (like Jeff) are aware of it.

His screen name is Matthew Kerny (or Kearny) yet he intoduced himself as Gregory (My son's first and middle name).  The only benefit about reporting him is that he may be harrassing/scaring other girls too.  At least facebook could boot him off.
