Feb 28th, 2026 (a fun little story)

This is actually a true story from a few days ago. I think if I title it in the future I can call it SciFi and consider myself, as a write, dabbling with time travel. **The author has taken some creative liberties to disguise the innocent's ID and also to (hopefully) better entertain the reader.

Feb 28th, 2026

I was out for a walk, one future day, and I see another dude walking near by. It looks as though he is playing fetch with his dog. My presumption is based on past experience, seeing this 2 acre empty lot often doubles as a dog park. Also I see some litter flailing around, which turns out to be litter, and not his dog.

"Have you seen a little dog out here" says John

"Nah, I'm only passing through and all I've seen is a German shepherd and a malamute." I say

"Alright."

"I'll keep an eye out. What it is, anyway, cuz?" I say

"Uhhh, it's a small dog, Chihuahua mix."

"Alright. Color?" I ask

"He is a brindle, long hair, mixed with a Wire Terrior."

At this point I am wondering why he didn't just get a colorful cat instead of a worthless dog.

"Oh, sorry for your lost pup, he's probably frantic right now. I know how nervous Chihuahua can be. If I see him I'll lure him with this bacon I keep in my pocket for this exact purpose."

"You just go around looking for lost dogs?" He says, genuinely perplexed

"Oh, no. I just keep it to give to dogs that I see. Keeps them from latching on to my leg, usually."

"Oh, ok."

An hour later I see his dog and am enticing the dog with bacon when a very large manx is stalking us both. The manx is a local stray tom and even as a grown man with bacon in hand I will not approach this wild animal. Before I can reach the Chihuahua the cat snatches him up and is gone. I went by John's house and told him I saw a car stop and a young woman got out and picked him up.

"Oh, that's nice. He has a chip so I am sure she will contact me." John says hopefully

"Don't count on it buddy. She looked in love already."

The End

These are very sensible yet haunting sentences.

Ok, well I am a practicing writer. I hope you enjoyed the story and I thank you for commenting..

I do love all dogs, even Chihuahuas and other tiny dogs, I believe are going to heaven. 😯😉

why this happened on my birthday-

As I read this story I am reasonably happy with the result but see my own prose has suffered from a writing hiatus. My timing is off.

Thanks again to anyone who has or will read and comment.

Thank you and yes as sure as inspiration strikes there will be more

For those interested and those who've said "more", please be advised inspiration has indeed struck and the story "Too Hot, Too Much Pressure" is underway.

Plot inspired by one true event and cast inspired by Animal Farm. Setting 5000-6500 feet below the seabed within the Mariana Trench.

I am glad you are fine and I assure you I had no idea.

So the 3 year anniversary is coming up in one week. (Cue Beatles song, Eight Days a Week). I believe we never truly get over losing a parent or someone else we love. We just learn to live without them. Good luck to you.
