I can't help but think it's strange that a post discussing politics has been here for three months without a moderator closing it. Political discussion is not allowed in the forums. I wish it was, there's lots I would love to discuss. For some reason, certain political discussions are closed with mere mention of world events. How is it not hypocritical of chess.com to say "no political or religious discussion in forums" yet allow certain topics to be discussed but not others.
Feel free to personally reach out to a moderator if this is so bothersome to you.
It doesn't bother me that this forum exists so I wouldn't want to report it. I would love more political discussion on the forums in general. It just confuses me how a forum actively discussing politics is open for three months, but posts that touch upon certain subjects are banned within a day.
It isn’t really talking about politics tho
Just because something might be included in some politics doesn’t make talking about it political
I've been monitoring the topic very early and receive ongoing notifications. You can see my early reminder about personal attacks and vulgar language.
My hot take... although some topics can be polarizing they aren't always political. I think others have been respectful at discussing the topic without personal attacks. The arguments aren't made as one party vs another (or slurring them).
Contrary to the opinions of few... we really do try to allow open discussions. I'd rather not lock a topic or mute others if it wasn't necessary.
I would say that gun legislation is a political issue, so discussion of it is political discussion. But I appreciate the nuance in terms of respect and lack of us Vs them mentality.
@peskybird_flies. I think they were just helping me understand. I really have no issue with this forum, nor do I wish to see it close. If I did I would have named the world events I was referring to.

Why not just keep it civil?
@ExploringWA. Do you mean why am I not keeping it civil? Or why should discussion not be allowed if it is kept civil?
Discussions like these can stay open as long as everyone is civil. If someone is not civil and breaks the TOS, they can be muted. If the OP is that way, then the thread will be locked.

The latter.
@ExploringWA. I agree that civil discussion of this subject should be allowed to continue. I just also think there are other subjects that aren't given the chance to be discussed in the forums. If people can discuss gun legislation without issue, even though views on the subject can be very polarising, I feel there are more subjects that deserve a chance. Also my apologies for making a portion of this discussion unrelated to gun control.

The discussion as to whether gun control can be debated, is on topic. 🤠
This is gun control:
Speed Steel Shooting: 2011 Oregon Man of Steel state championship.

Someone might have to report it for something to happen
Or it’s cuz the OP closed their account (idk if that changes anything or not tho)
