Norway has very loose gun laws, but they actually go through the effort to make sure they aren't raising psychos.

Besides the comments already, every country that has ever disarmed itself, they have all been taken over by those who live the way of the warrior. Those who live by the warrior code, they are taken over by the bigger dog as they age. All societies fall.

I prefer to live in a society where I am free to protect myself and those I love from the 30% of our population that doesn’t value truth and honesty. I don’t want to live in a nanny state where I need to call the police and wait while someone burglarizes my home.

Right. But in Norway, they provide free physical and mental health care. The United States has loose gun laws, expensive (and constantly rising) health care. Norway does a great job in making sure that people are happy and that, like you said, they don’t raise ‘psychos’.

#123 their laws are tighter than American laws. Americans aren't rasing psychos, but when it's so easy to get guns you shouldn't be surprised when one out of hundreds of kids will go and do a school shooting.

So then we agree that we don't need to ban guns, we just need to make sure we have good citizens. A big part of this is stopping catch and release. Another part, which you disagree with is teaching kids to be decent people. Teach a kid how to act, and they will act that way. A lot of the shooters are young men that just got out of high school or college. We have these guys for 16,000 hours, that should be enough time to form who they become, so it should be concerning that lots of them will drink, there will be fights, schools don't really discipline bullies, and if we change that, our nation will be much safer.

Norway does not have tight gun laws. It is hard to argue that school shootings are a problem and we aren't raising psychos, as it takes a psycho to do a school shooting. You are arguing that we need to make sure that these psychos don't get the guns, and then saying that we aren't raising psychos.

Avatar of Bezap

#129 I did not say they have tight gun laws, I said their gun laws are tighter than us laws. I'm arguing that you aren't raising psychos more than any other country, and that your psychos can just do more because weapons are more available to them.

How is this not political discussion?

I agree that we need to implement things like free health care and care more about the wellbeing of citizens. That doesn’t change the gun issue, though. This is something you really have to come to terms with.

Norway does not have loose gun laws.

You cannot carry one for self-defense.

To get one, you have to go through a ton of training.

Gun ownership licenses are mostly only given out to hunters or those with a genuine reason to need one. Self-defense obviously doesn’t count.

How do you defend yourself then?
Someone smuggles in a gun, what do you do?
Only way to defend from a gun is to shoot first

Thinking like this is exactly why the United States ranks so low in education.

#136 that's a horrible way to try to convince anyone, you may not agree with him but just saying something in the lines of "your claim is just dumb and you are dumb as well, no I'm not going to tell you why I think that.". And that's one of the most counter productive thing to say, not only are you making him not listan to you ever again you are also just being rude.

It is quite the contrary in practice. Your chances of survival in a confrontation with someone armed statistically decrease if you yourself possess a firearm. Of course there are cases where armed people do manage to "shoot first" but if you want to have higher odds of survival you should not be carrying.

It is rude--true. So is willful ignorance. Let's say we're even.

But, for you, I'll write a short explanation to explain why he is a part of the problem.

If someone has a gun, it is likely that they want something from you and don't actually want to kill you. If someone breaks into my house in the middle of the night, he's not out to kill me--he's out to rob me of my valuable items and money. All I have to do is let him take what he wants, call the police, and get my insurance money.

Nobody smuggling in a gun (usually) is out to kill anyone, except for EXTREMELY rare cases. You do not need a gun to shoot someone first (which is murder) to defend yourself. This is common knowledge.

#139 not agreeing with you doesn't make him willfully ignorant. All of that just for me? You are just to kind, for your contribution I'll give you one bezap token. A bezap token can be used anywhere where bezap tokens are accepted... Which is basically nowhere, but hey at least you'll be richer than most of otf

Ah yes
Wanting to have defense is the reason the US ranks low

We have a lot of problems. Education, gun laws, health care, and the list goes on.
