Give me that Old Time (pre) Rock and Roll.

Where is this guy from? (Sounds American?) The state of Arkansas is a foreign country, even back in 1951?

The guy with the globe is Lee Hayes. He was from Arkansas. The woman is Ronnie Gilbert. On guitar is Fred Hellerman while Pete Seeger plays the banjo.

Batgirl! I started on Chess.com YEARS ago and left. Good to see you still on here!
Thanks Eddie.

Ok, I am confused . . . the guy lives(ed) in Arkansas and calls it a foreign country? I have heard rumblings about the American education system, but always thought they were exaggerated!

I guess Arkansas is situated in a country foreign to someone. I'm not 100% sure of some details but this group was blacklisted for suspected communist sympathies. After that the couldn't get work in the U.S. I know Pete Seeger made some tv productions in England. I'm not sure about the Weavers as a group.

The blues is generally credited as the seminal precursor to rock-n-roll. The most famous of the early blue artists, who has inspired probably more rock-n-roll songs, is Robert Johnson....
