Going back to the original point of the thread, my teachers did a good job of teaching me that "Everyone else is doing it" is not a justification or a defense.
U.S. efforts in Afghanistan are successfully reducing terrorist attacks and eliminating the leaders of terrorist organizations. Let us mourn the 5 lost lives today and remember that they gave their lives so that we at home can be safer. May God bless their families ... and may those families never hear some of the things posted in this thread by ungrateful countrymen.

I agree with cookie, we are all evil imperialists. However it is not futile to pretend we are better, if once in a while it forces us to act like we're better.

Simple answer: CORPORATIONS!!!!! anything you do today involves some corporation that is taking advantage of some third world country. They take advantage of everyone; as long as it increases profits. Do you really believe you are so innocent yourselves? How much money do you make at your job? Even at minimum wage, as an American, your income would be way above the world average; yet i am willing to bet you are not giving your paychecks away to charities. I got news for Tryst or the other complainers: this has gone on throughout time, the strong has always gotten over the weak. My teachers taught me to listen and read. In fact, I progressed far enough to take some logic classes, where they taught me about things called "fallacies." For example, the strawman fallacy.

Kyle, because you mentioned original thread pertaining to what teachers taught. To take the "Everyone else is doing it doesn't make it right" route, really. My teachers also taught me well, to make intelligent decisions, to use rational thought. They also taught me not to trust all i read or hear; to investigate all! To put your "everyone else" notion to use here doesn't make any sense. No other country does what we do, so how can it pertain to us? While, no doubt, our country has problems, no other country in history can claim to help as many people as this one has. If the U.S. stopped giving to third world countries, how bad would it get for hundreds of millions? How many would die from starvation or disease? Are we that bad? Go ahead Sharon, tear down this statement! Say it is all to serve a purpose, isn't that the penny answer?! Is China or Russia doing anything about the hunger in Africa? Has any other country done anything? Any past gov't? NO!!!!! But, go ahead, try and tear down the BEST COUNTRY IN HISTORY!!!! It will withstand your attacks!!!
