Guns are owned by the law-abiding for survival and/or sport.

Hunting used to be the primary way of securing meat.  For some, it still is.

Self-defense is always a good reason to be armed.

Guns are also owned by non law-abiding.   Ya know?

Sure do.  Got stuck in the Rodney King riots in LA.  My commute took me right through Lakeview Terrace.  I had a shotgun and extra shells in the trunk. If anyone tried something, me and my carpool (recreational shooters) would have stood our ground, eith no regrets.

Whooooooa.

Rolling deep on my commute, if they came at me, we'd put them on mute...

Also, what kind of scope is that?

Have any of you guys ever had to fire your weapon outside of the context of competition, target practice, hunting etc? So for self defence purposes I guess I'm asking.

Naaaaa but this past summer I was right next to when an AK was chambered right on my patio.  It was for protecting our place of solace.  Our home.

.223. The scope is a Burris Signature 6-24. It’s mounted on a two cam quick disconnect with pop up open sights.

Nice.  On that ruger?  What scope is that?

I did not go to gunsmithing school, but I apprenticed under three different gunsmiths. I then ran a custom gun shop for 20 years. My primary business was thermoset resin coatings, but I did most everything.

Ah ok.  Was it in the family type? Or did you search for a gunsmith?

I remember how funny I found it when the terminator went shopping in the first movie. At first I thought it was a joke. If Sarah Connor was Spanish, he would have had to throw stones at her. Well, that can be lethal too!

anyone that says they have guns for self defense is pretending. as if you live in an area where there is a robbery and/or home invasion every minute where you must have your gun at the ready. and, if you lived in an area like that, wouldn't you move?

the theory that guns are for safety has been debunked many times over. there is a ton of statistical evidence that demonstrably shows that the prevalence of guns increases both murders and suicides.

just grow a set and say you have guns because you like guns, and you like target shooting at the range.

carry on (no pun intended).

if it is true that you know many people that have needed guns for self defense (which i have a hard time believing), i wonder if it might be that everyone where you live owns a gun and has them displayed on gun racks, as you previously wrote.
