I always check game stats and activity. Then I think about my own dismal game stats and I accept the request. If I see something in profile or activity that's controversial, I don't accept. I haven't been very careful about it. Fortunately, not many friends have caused me trouble and I haven't unfriended anybody. I almost never send out friend requests.
I normally don't accept from people I don't interact much with especially if they're just collecting "friends". Besides as someone recently told me, nobody likes me anyway.

Who told you that, a 10 year old?! What do THEY know? Speaking of collections, I never accept friend requests from men who ONLY friend women. I REFUSE to be part of someone’s women collection! Usually I’ll accept a friend request from someone who seems witty and self-deprecating.

When I don't have patience, I only accept my favorites. But when I have patience, I follow a list like this:

Without a clothe? X

LOTR fan? 👍
An user who I know but its a troll or something like that? X

An account sooo new? X
An user I never have seen before and there are not clues of his/her personality? X

I accept literally anyone unless they have a creepy/disgusting username
Friend requests are ideal if you've actually communicated with them beforehand (i.e., Chat during a game, or DM durung an active Forum thread); it's the random ones which are questionable. The people who are irritating aren't the so-called "randos", but rather those arrogant people who publicly announce/brag that they turn down all Friend Requests----these people deserve to be spammed with Friend Requests out of spite...
