How to block ads on all devices

Are you sick of getting scammy and inappropriate advertisements, or just sick of corporations shoving their products constantly in your face? If you are somehow still someone who uses the Internet in 2025 without an adblocker of some kind, here's a guide.

There are 2 main methods, which is through a browser extension and through setting a DNS server that blocks all ad-serving domains, blocking ads in all applications that use those blocked services.

The best and generally most efficient extension is uBlock Origin. It is completely free and open source. Availability may be lacking on Chromium-based browsers because Google sucks.

If you want to block ads on a non-website, you can do DNS-level blocking. This won't work on apps like YouTube that serve ads themselves

DNS level blocking does work on the chess.com app. DNS servers that let you block ads include: NextDNS, Mullvad DNS, and AdGuard DNS

Any device that lets you set a custom DNS server will have this method work
