Recently my dad was playing a chess game, (he’s rated 600) and he kept asking me to give him the best move in that position. My rating is around 1100 on Chess.com and 1400-1500 on Lichess. This is my alt and my actual account is “SerendipityMoves”. Anyway I told him that that wasn’t exactly fair to his opponent, as a 500-600 rating difference is kind of a lot, and he doesn’t play much so he doesn’t really understand the rating system. I know I’m not world class or even very much above average if even, but I could honestly wipe the floor with any 600 (yes, I know that if I played only 600s I would lose some), but it really isn’t fair to his opponents. If you were rated 2000, you’d be playing people rated grandmaster level. I told him it wasn’t fair and he got really angry. More recently, he banned me from chess for being an “addict” after playing 8 games in one day. I said that chess was important to me and he said he was scared for my wellbeing. What should I do? I try really hard to be respectful but he thinks he’s right about everything when clearly I know way more about chess than him, even aside from actual gameplay. Any ideas?
