John McEnroe.
They say he was really mean to flowers....and that can't be good.
Jus throw the iPad at the wall, works wonders
It causes marital problems. Believe me. I know.
If you let every loss effect you, years down the road you could develope an a life changing ulcer, then what, checkers?
Chess is a status-challenging encounter. It's not ''fun'', it's satisfying because you feel like you gain status. However, when you lose, it feels exactly like getting your status demoted in real life. If there wasn't any long-lasting psychological reward, there wouldn't be guys playing 100,000+ games in a few years. Stop any second during a game and tell me in all seriousness that you're having a better time than when watching Tv. You don't. You just hope to win and hope it'll affect your life for the best. It will never. Getting angry means you're addicted. Play longer games, it might help. Or make your opponents wait unnecessarily when you lose.
First of all, I have realized by reading through all the comments on many threads, and playing many games, is that a lot of the chess.com community is extremly lame, mean, and unhelpful. Aside from a few people that are genuinely trying to respond in a helpful manner, many people actually took the time to write "just get over it." Obviously if the thread starter could do that, do you think he would be asking for help? What's the point of even writing that? Just to be a dick?
I sometimes get extremly frustrated in an almost unhealthy manner when losing at chess. It's the only thing in my life that makes me feel so in adaquate when losing, especially when I lose multiple games in a row. Idk why exactly, I play many sports, competed professionally, and now semi professionally, and chess is the only thing that really makes my mind explode when I lose. One thing that has really help me is limiting each playing session to only 3 games. I used to log on and play and just keep playing, but even if i started out playing well eventually i would tire out, start losing, and couldn't stop until I was totaly self loathing, and quit in disgust of my own moves. When I only play three games, if I win, great I can quit on a high note, if I lose all three, than I can get out before I rage quit. It has helped my rating climb, and I haven't had any freak outs after losing! The only time I've seen a major drop in my rating is when I break my own rule and try to reclaim lost rating points by playing more games, it never works out well.
I don't get more angry losing than I get angry when people play Indian defences. I was once disappointed though, I got a winning position, easy to win, but wasn't able to win it due to time trouble and 39 degrees in my head
Lost my last 10 games in livechess(all in better position) due to timeout/abandoned due to
internet conn.problems..have left having any feeling or sentimental approach to it..no ill feeling as I know it is of no use..lamenting about it..
feel lost about 100 games this way ..only felt sad a bit when lost from a move or two away from checkmating my opponent..
You obviously have not lost enough games, as someone who have lost 10s of thousands of games, losing is just a minor annoyance, it gets easier the more you lose.
Chess.com forums suck asshole on android. So I'll summarize my quote/post...
Say nay to the naysayers.
Chess is beauty, life, philosophy, and passion.
Get upset, it means you care to improve.
What to do about it then?
Improve!!
lol thank you for the comments everyone, luckily i won a couple nice games before i went to work otherwise my work day would have started out very badly haha
You need to find a way to laugh it off, and put humor into the losses! My so-called "unofficial coach" has beaten me OTB at the cafe in the last year and a half, I'm guessing...probably 28 out of 30 games. I've only beaten him twice, and almost a 3rd time, but I just didn't capitolize on his blunder in that game. I estimate if he had a USCF rating, it would be 2000. Mine? 1100.
So when you are losing, just tell your opponent that he is "very kind" for pinning your Rook. Or taking advantage of the weakened light squares. Or threatening mate.
Oh, what fun! You just trapped my Queen!! Well, she was so pretty that she was sure enough to attract a lot of Bishops, Pawns and Knights chasing her around the board, and then get her eventually. Thank you for trapping my Queen, sire, that was just, so kind. And I appreciate it.
Stuff like that. You just got to add humor to it and not take the sport so seriously.
OK mi'lord?
