Depends how creative you were. I think most first time offenders get like a 4 hour timeout from what I've read.
I only just come on to chess.com and saw your reply. I was very creative. I think it's pretty much 4 hours every time then. It seems about that! :/ it's happened a few times. Strange how they ban you for chatting with a friend. No one will have reported it. Thanks for your reply btw 
They have a "forbidden language filter" in the programming that watches and doles out punishment automatically, or so I've read. You are quite welcome...

I think it's after a couple of times in a certain amount of time when it happens. You can still send messages to each other though. Just not chat
