Hi folks and a happy new year. Much to the delight of many chess.com users I haven't been around much lately, having taken a well earned break. Whilst swimming off the scenic coast of Skegness on Xmas morning, I found myself being harassed by a yob hoodie dolphin. My first thought was to wrestle him to the ground (or sea bed in this case) and show him who was boss. The dolphin changed his tone, apologising and explaining that he didn't do it on porpoise. I let him off having administered a reprimand. Have any of you good people ever had any similar experiences with lairy sea creatures, animals etc?

I find that many members of the oceanic community are shellfish and not generous.

I spent years of my childhood on my grandparents family farm out in the boonies of LA (lower Alabama) and have had a number of "close calls" with both wild and somewhat domesticated critters! From being chased by bulls, sows and boars to having water moccasins trying to steal fish from my stringer or even trying to get in the boat with us ! (my brother and I or sometimes our Grandfather would be with us) When I look back on those years and some of the crazy things we did growing up I am amazed that nothing tragic ever happened to me or my brother.

There is a dolphin called Dave (a female it was later discovered) who swims just off the beach near Folkestone. She is very friendly and actively seeks human contact. Unfortunately, this has lead to people attempting safari-park like tricks with Dave. The police and wildlife protection people have become involved. This has lead to the following measures;

1. Articles in the local newspaper by the local police telling all and sundry to leave the water when Dave is about, or risk arrest.

2. A poster campaign.

3. Dave gets his own police patrol on warm weekends.

Of course, this has been counter-productive, and Dave now has quite an audience!

She is such a star locally, that she even has her own stamps and has started a minor tourist rush!
