is arguing necessary, and how do you resolve them?

37, you bring up a good point. I think that most people don’t apologize and instead expect one because they want to feel like they’re right about whatever the argument was. But I agree, the apology isn’t supposed to help the other person, it’s themselves.

#19 arguments reveal this about a person, such as how they were raised and their beliefs.

They are also healthy with moderation
BasixWhiteBoy
debating peacefully is fine, and random arguments for no reason isn’t a good thing, but I suppose it’s healthy, like you said.

It allows people to vent frustration and anxiety

True, which can be good for a person. Yeah, I start school tomorrow.

I'm honestly tired of people bringing their irl mental problems onto a chess forum full of unqualified teenagers. It would be better if they took it to DMs if there's a specific person they want to talk to, but it really decreases the solidarity of us as a community due to people arguing if they post it publicly.

That again is not targeting a single person but it is in general.

I would say that most of the time, people with mental problems have no one they can really talk to, and find the forums and people to talk to, and they find that they like talking to people there. In most cases, people argue publicly to try to impress the otf community by trying to prove they’re right, which I never really appreciate. But there’s many other reasons why they do it publicly. Maybe they have people that support them, and find that it’s better to argue with their friends instead of just themselves. I’m not 100% sure, but that would be my guess. It’s definitely mature to argue in dms, for sure.

Sometimes under-thinking leaves one at the mercy of gut reactions or what "everybody else does". But to each their own.
