Is Chess a racist game ?

They can change the colour of the pieces in chess.com by going to settings and themes. They can also buy gold and silver chess pieces online. Chess is not racist. White starts the game and black counter attack, I see no problem here.
It may not be racist, but it is certainly undemocratic. There's privileged royalty, and pawns get sacrificed left and right.

If you have a problem with the colors.... you can click on home and go to theme where you can change your colors

When it was made, it was not the intention, the problem is, we are now in 2021 and we are talking about such issues.

I got one problem.
Some groups are protesting to Chess, because white always starts and can even hit a black woman. ( they forget it can be also be the other way around, )"
So, to avoid racisme in a game, should we change colors or should black start the game ?
But say, we change the colors in blue and pink, man vs woman, who should start first then ?
Maybe you all read this as a hugh joke, but i am just noisy how pro-players are dealing with this kind of comments about a game, because there are people who are really think this game is a game special for white people, because white always start the game.
First of all, i don`t care if you are white or black, gay or your religion.
Main problem i have is the argument people using that i would need to accept that some people find this game unrespectful because white always starts this game...
I hope that this will open the discussion among other players, espacial because i personally find it is getting to odd to discuss a game and then say that a game is a racist game.
So, is chess a racist game ? ( no, i am not colored, not gay, i respect other beliefs, but my question is just, is this discussion just right to discuss ? )
Personal i never did see this game as a racist game.
what does hitting a black woman have to do with chess lol
also it's not racist. When it was made it was never intended to be racist. People just like turning non-issues into issues.

I am agreeing with r-RTF-v. Chess has some deeply rooted racist tendencies. Shouldn't we, as a human race, strive to do better? If a game has antiquated ideas from thousands of years ago, we need to fix it to meet the standards of equality put in place in modern time.

Next thing we know, white phone cases are racist because it symbolizes how little children in underprivileged countries are working for the elite whites.

This is a grossly absurd response. Phone cases don't equate to symbolism in modern times. Chess is an old game made by old rulers who found white to be the most uxorious class. Also, to your point - child slaves making phone cases for the white elite is certainly a whole other problem.

This thread was started by either a troll or by a member of the professionally offended class.
First, white and black are merely the standard names for the two different colors of the pieces. You could play with white and yellow, or light brown and dark brown--doesn't matter.
Second, throughout much of the 19th century, either color could start first. It wasn't until the late 1800s that it was finally established that white would go first, and only for the sake of simplicity and consistency.
And while we're at it, let's brand as racist those people who prefer vanilla to chocolate, or sourdough bread to pumpernickel.

Chess pieces are colors. They are black and white because any other color was difficult to get back then. And it contrasts well on the board. It doesn’t symbolize anything.

Not for nothing, but this comes across as something someone with racist ideologies would say.

Don’t need to fix what isn’t broken.
Uh - not for nothing, but to me racism comes across as a "broken" aspect of society.. so we certainly should fix that..

I'm going to be frank here since some people think chess is sort of racist. Its not. It's just the standard. Just imagine how confusing openings will be for beginners if white and black goes first randomly. It's a rule to make chess simpler. If you are offended only because of the colour, then why not claim chess is sexist as well since kings can only move in 8 directions while queens can move like a bishop, knight and the rook?
