I saw the first June Bug a few days ago. The scientific name for the June Bug is unknown, apparently. The family of beetles to which June Bugs belong is called Phillophaga. There are 900 beetles in this family and many of them are probably called June Bugs.
Anyway, between now and June these beetles will be laying eggs in lawns across America and presumably beyond. Who knows?
If you have Bermuda grass, who cares. They don't really bother Bermuda. If you have St Augustine grass now would be a good time to apply a pest control (natural or chemical) that will prevent grub worms, the larvae of June Bugs. These worms thrive on st Augustine and will turn a beautiful lawn into dirt in 90 days, given the proper circumstances, which is a healthy lawn.
