In the Karate Kid movies, Mr. Miyagi explains to Daniel "I am always scared to fight." This sentence implies that there is always some level of fear involved whenever he had to fight.
In one of the Star Wars movies (I forget which one), Yoda explains that "Fear is the path to the dark side." That being said, would that mean Mr. Miyagi was actually on the dark side because he was fearful of fighting?
Were Johnny and Sensei Kreese actually the good guys because Kreese taught his students that "Fear does not exist in this dojo!"???
In my opinion being scared of something is not the same as being afraid of it. You can see that when you are scared of something you try to forget about till you are forced to confront it or do it. Fear leads to you taking active steps to avoid it such as changing your environment or what not. Fear will also make you probably unable to ever face what you’re afraid of.
I would say, Miyagi expressing as he had then, was because he was always afraid he’d harm whomever he were battling, and never would care to, but forced in such the position would.
