I'm glad you made this thread, Sharon.

I didn't even know. Mr. Spock was a hero to me when I was a kid.

RIP, Leonard Nimoy

What disgusts me is that there are people who don't seem to know the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars. There are idiots out there mourning him with "May the force be with you" and the like. I'm not sure if they're really that thick or if they're Diehard Star Wars fans using Leonard Nimoy's death as an opportunity to troll Trekkies. Absolutley disgusting and highly disrespectful if that is the case, and illogical either way.

They might just be trolling, Adam.  Don't get annoyed by it: use Spock's coolly detached approach. Logical.

I hate that! I used to know somebody who would always yell about something like this.

Him: So you like Star Trek?

Me: Yeah, I watch it.

Him: OH MY GOSH! DARTH VADER IS THE BEST RIGHT?!?!

Me:(walks away)

For gawwd's sake adam, it's not real.

That's not the point. To make a genuine mistake is one thing (however stupid it may be), but to deliberately use someone's death as an opportunity to troll fans of a "rival" franchise is something entirely different. Of couse, I don't know which one is the case, but it's still disrespectful.

As I said, it is illogical either way Wink.

I think people attach too much credence to actors. They are playing other people. They are not " heroes" in the true sense of the word. Yes, Leonard Nimoy was held in great affection. However, it is disturbing when there is an outburst of grief from people who would blink at the passing of a family member.

The beauty of the Star Trek original series was that it had intellectual content. Often the viewer was presented with a moral dilemma or a philosophical perspective and left for themselves to evaluate it.  It doesn't matter if the character was fictional or not, he gave a lot of happiness to a lot of people and Star Trek when we were kids was something of a highlight.  Its a part of people.  We should understand that and respect it.

Indeed robbie, no one would take that away.

Plus you gotta dig the sixties style with miniskirts and bob hairdos and those pointy black boots and those real lame (by todays standards) special effects.  Its what makes it awesome.  I might go sixties myself with a zoot suit!

He was my favorite Star Trek character, including DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, The Next Generation...my favorite of  ALL TIME

I get your point kaynight. I just felt hurt when you said we would blink at the death of family, so I was a bit moody.

You're para dude, who is painting you into a corner?

That is higly illogical, indeed, kaynight, to have drawn the conclusion you have drawn.

The only mention of the word "hero" was made by feufollet.

Mr. Spock was a stabilizing anchor for young feufollet surrounded by ILLOGICAL WILDLY EMOTIONAL family members and environment rife with domestic violence.

Mr. Spock, hero to a child does not equal Leonard Nimoy the actor hero to an adult.

In any case, Mr. Spock cannot be separated from Mr. Nimoy, the former having made an indelible imprint in the minds and hearts of many.

Such is the paths of destiny.

Leonard Nimoy's was not such a bad one compared to many others.

Avatar of Feufollet

He came to represent something much bigger than himself.

Whether he liked it or not.

It's interesting why Mr. Spock has such an effect on so many -- I imagine many trekkies were kids...

I would study this phenomenon if I had time.
