Why would this thread be locked?
Sure, I'm interested in those topics, but like you said, maybe not for this thread.
I will go ahead and respond to the "not normal" comment... sure that implies a moral judgement. I only meant statistically it's in the minority. If you'd like something more uplifting... it's not normal to find gold when mining ![]()
for whats this forum..?
This thread was started as a place for lgbtq+ folk to chat about lgbtq+ stuff, and share lgbtq+ media, from a pro-lgbtq+ perspective. We also get the odd troll or rude bigot spout some tripe, but we don't enageg with them, merely report and ignore.
Big goals, especially considering its origin... but sure, go for it.

Yes, there are more cishet people than lgbtq+ people
There are more hearing people than deaf, but it'd be odd to call deaf people not normal, especially to deaf people in a deaf space.
But you've already acknowledged the subtext of that phraseology and are no doubt smart enough to be aware of what weight that word choice may carry within a specifically lgbtq+ thread, so it seems a curious linguistic choice to me.
But, it's nothing I wish to get into the weeds about. I'd rather post pop songs and educational YTs, lol ![]()
*Snip* It's sad that some people don't understand time and place. *Snip*
Time: when persecution of people on the fringe is not as severe as it used to be.
Place: chess web site
It's like walking into a chess club filled with a diverse group of people and discussing the same. A good idea?
Eh, I think both can be true. DL can be too quick to lecture but that doesn't make stupid comments any less stupid.
And not all of them are stupid. FWIW I think SS has a point about so many letters... I understand inclusivity is nice, but from a marketing standpoint I think we should be able to have a laugh.

Time: when minorities should be in a position to be free from hate and abuse in some cultures but sadly still aren't, where in many places in the world they are subject to terror, and where there's a dangerous growing anti-lgbt+ sentiment even in societies which we thought had moved on.
Place: one thread dedicated to lgbtq+ issues, started by someone who wanted to chat freely away from hate, on one sub-forum dedicated to all topics other than chess
It's like walking into a community centre where different interest groups have their own rooms, starting an lgbtq+ group, and then having to deal with trolls and bigots coming into their space just to make stupid comments and then when said trolls are ignored they complain the room wasn't a good idea because society isn't as mean to them as it was before. A good idea?
If anyone wants to criticise lgbtq+ stuff there's a specific thread for that. If anyone wants to discuss straight issues there's a specific thread for that.
Can we not have this specific thread for the lgbtq+ folk?
Anyway ... back to the standard ignore policy.

A room would be a club, not a forum topic.
Also we need more of your thumbs down. We're running out of cow bell.

And another. This is becoming spam. Keto gummies beware
Maybe I'm tired and reading into it too much (about to go to bed, I swear!) but it seems like both sides are making poor excuses (?)
"This is a LGBT topic so you're not allowed to complain about trolls" (that doesn't make sense)
"This is a LGBT topic so you're not allowed to troll here" (also doesn't make sense)
Elroch is allowed to police his "controversial" topic (global warming and the like) why can't an OP police a topic like this (although I realize this OP has flaws).
And @ DL, it's a public forum, so you're going to run into kids and bigoted old people... if you'd started the topic you could use what's IMO a good system... block someone for a few days then unblock them.

Eh, I like this topic, but not sure I like having lots of these topics.
Plus "criticize a minority group here" seems pretty sarcastic.
Well anyway, guess I'll see how this all turned out after I wake up.

I believe this is a legitimate misunderstanding, so I will respond:
The thread just mentioned by yourself was created specifically because posters wanted a place to criticise lgbtq+ and one poster in particular didn't like the fact we ignored critique in here.
If people don't want to gather together in a thread to offer critique they can just ignore it.
Without a separate thread people will just keep coming into this thread to try and start a discussion. If you want a serious discussion about lgbtq+ stuff, we can have one. Just not in here. It's not the point of this thread, same as I don't post about my favourite colour in a thread dedicated to the King's Gambit opening. Time and place.
So, to be clear: this thread is for pro-lgbt+ content. The other thread is for anti-lgbt+ content. One thread each.
Maybe I'm tired and reading into it too much (about to go to bed, I swear!) but it seems like both sides are making poor excuses (?)

I'm aware I'm going to get people who can't resist trolling or making bigoted comments. That's a given. That's why the ignore and report system is a good one.
They expose themselves, we ignore. Everyone is happy.
So, to be clear: this thread is for pro-lgbt+ content. The other thread is for anti-lgbt+ content. One thread each.
That's like an echo chamber for hate. What on earth were you thinking?
I'm very pro-free speech. I'm totally content to have people gather together to discuss their anti-lgbtq+ viewpoints, or any other viewpoints. Why shouldn't they have that right?
It's interesting that so far no one has posted anything in it. That's up to them.
Of course I mostly agree with you, but "homophobe" feels overly dismissive. Sometimes kids are learning social boundaries by saying inappropriate things without even understanding what their words mean, and some adults are (just as instinctively) attempting to maintain the social status quo by signaling their disapproval of something not normal.
Although I enjoy the fact that society is seriously reflecting on the various shades of human sexuality, I have to admit that adding many letters is a bit humorous... I can also understand that those who view the world as a zero sum game will feel threatened (i.e. by including you it means we're excluding me).
I mean... I realize this is all a bit rich coming from me, what with my daily displays of contempt, but you know, there are two sides to it. Not everyone who posts stuff like the recent posts is a contemptable bigot or "homophobe."
People who reject God using the term homophobe is just like Putin using the term Russaphobe to describe anyone against Russia invading Ukraine.
The term "homophobe" has nothing to do with theism. Words that are written for the purpose of creating an atmosphere rather than communicating an idea aren't interesting to me.
Which is also the main reason I dislike the word "homophobe" because no one is "afraid" of homosexuals. That's a petty insult. It's more accurate to say they're disgusted by homosexuals.
On a related note, I also dislike it when people characterize a killer as a coward... "this person gunned down children and old people, they were a coward" uh no, cowardice has nothing to do with it. That's likely just you projecting your own fear... some of dumbest crap I've ever heard...
... but now I'm getting way off topic.
