Since you played the religion card please allow me to retort.

Isn't Christianity based on forgiveness?

If so and some one offended you , aint you suppose to forgive them?

I like erik's idea of not including Off Topic threads on the Recent Forum Topics.  I think most of us are here to play/discuss/etc chess - no harm in discussing other things but let's have the front page for chess only?

I don't spend much time trawling through the topics but I like to have my attention drawn to the occasional chess subject - if I want to have other discussions I can always go looking for them.

I think to keep everybody happy, there could be a "Most Recent Chess Posts" and "Most Recent Off-Topic Posts".

I'm a Christian and have never seen anything truly offensive on here. There are plenty of Christian web forums that you might be much happier at. They often have moderators who are good Pharisee/ hypocrites and you can apply to become one. I think you need to take a Rolaid and relax.

How hard would it be to customize the "recent posts" section? Perhaps it would be more work than really necessary, as in my opinion this is a small issue. But if people could customize what they are alerted on, that would be the best option.

I'm not a programmer, and if this is a bother at all I would say it isn't a suggestion worth noting. But if it were a small addition, it might be worth it.

Personally, I would like to see the forums remain "clean" not because I am offended by it, but because I think parents don't want their kids coming to a place with bad (profane/explicit) language. There are lots of good chess players who are also children, I think we should make this a place their parents want them to come.

This is getting crazy, I'm agreeing with this guy twice in a week. BUT I'm not sure I'd want my kid in a private chat enabled game with a strange internet person on here. I think the forums are the lesser danger but should stay clean for the reason Loomis mentions.

I agree, but there are some people that are so uptight there just looking for a reason to flaunt there beliefs. If you do not wana be around people that have a sense of humor then play a computer...and take a couple rolaids.Tongue out

IMHO this forum is very very tame compared to others.

If a person looks hard enough though they will always find something to offend them.

Another option would be a ignore feature.

Maybe chessviper should start a Christian chess site...

or just a Christian Group in the Chess.com groups. i think that is perfectly acceptable. also, we do need to be both tolerant AND non-offfensive. if we try to be both then there will be good overlap :)

Just because you forgive someone doesn't mean you ignore what they've done completely. I feel as if im being prosecuted. I don't have to prove myself to anyone.

I'll reply since there's no doubt you're going to read it.  Your basic mistake is thinking you are calling attention to offensive things, rather than what you are actually doing which is calling attention to things that offend you.  That's not quite the same thing.  It should be apparent from the responses you have garnered that most reasonable people are not as easily offended as you.

I don't necessarily agree with chessviper's assertions concerning several threads (nor do I necessarily disagree with them either), but I do believe he is perfectly justified in voicing his dismay since his opinions and beliefs are as valid as anyone elses' - in fact his beliefs might actually dictate that he voice his dismay.

It's entirely up to the administration to decide what is and is not acceptable but questioning certain things and bringing it to their attention poses no threat if nothing is amiss.

Checks and balances.

Me thinks that as long as Erik and his team are kind enough to have this site available, I'll treat it like I'm visiting ones home.  I come back because, I feel comfortable.  I'm not trying to kiss your butt Erik...just pointing out that I feel comfortable 'in your home'.  Anyone uncomfortable,??  Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!

hmmmm, the advertisers is gonna like that.

50% of the fun of this website is the forums. And as far as I understand the comminity thing is one of the reasons Erik created this site. When you find yourself in a diverse community and some people say things that offend you, you can simply just assosiate with people who don't offend you.

Or you can discuss things and find a common ground.
