My understanding of certain recent events in USA

It is hard for an outsider to understand.  Actually, it is hard for most americans to understand too.   But the underlying real point to the upcoming election is who gets to replace (probably 2-3) supreme court justices, which has an *actual effect* on the country's current slow spiral into a police state as our freedoms are eroded.  Both major parties are guilty of this erosion, at this point people are just trying to pick between which freedoms we want to lose the least.

Given how little americans understand the importance of this (and maybe the next ) election vs the court, it is probably totally incomprehensible to outsiders.  The media, being bought and paid for, isn't helping.
