Need physical exercise suggestions!

I am 37. I am 5 foot 8 and about 85 kilos. That's not that overweight. But it is not great. I can't find any excercise that I like to do at all. I need to. I should for every reason from correlations between weight and cancer, cataracts and every other sling and arrow imaginable.

But I can't find anything. I live in a backward western coun try where you can't grab gateball or tai-chi for an hour on your way to work.

I need something non-contact, non-violent that is going to take up very little time and use minimal equipment. Maybe it would be a better start to rule out some things:

1. swimming, NO, I can't swim.

2. jogging/running, NO. Can't be bothered.

3. Yoga, NO, I don't want some religious wackville - I just want excercise.

4. Stationary BIKE, no, boring.

5. Gym activity, NO, couldn't be bothered.

6. sporting clubs, no and no, I don't want snobs, politics and other rubbish.

I am  open to any left field suggestion. I'd even think of something like orienteering if it weren't in the middle of nowhere.

Actually there's a thought. Someone could write a computer program that used your local area to construct an urban orienteering course around shopping markers, signposts, whatever...there's a financial opportunity for someone. Or a phd. I'd say ask Google about it but you can't contact them right? I mean, how do you contact "Google"??

Anyway, any suggestions?

Linux, loosing weight is 95% about food and 5% about exercise. The only diet that works is protein diet but it requires medicalassistance to avoid yoyo. Exercises is good for your health, but not ideal to work on weight. I have one of these running conveyors with a tv so i can run while watching

I agree with Bronsteinitz with the following caveats:  Reduce calories and you will lose weight.  I used the "hackers diet", http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/.

Exercise does improve morale, increase metabolism, and reduce stress.  What worked for me was a membership in the YMCA, and most important, an MP3 player for audio books.  You can borrow audio books from the library (lookup "overdrive") over the internet.  You can find all sorts of free lectures on the web.  If you combine exercise with listening to a book/lecture you enjoy, you will find that time flies.

BTW, Yoga is fun, especially in a class at the YMCA.  No religion involved; but it is not to everyone's taste.

Good luck!

Why can't you get a real bike? No place to ride? If you are trying to burn calories and strengthen your heart, that's the ticket.

Yoga doesn't have to be a guru type thing. Some people (like me) do it for exercise and stretching (which makes exercise less painful).

Reducing snacks and switching to healthier foods really helps, but as the Belgian said if you are too overzealous at first you just become atavistic.
