Joke.

But it would be very nice if vacation was abolished on chess.com. Because you know its so frustrating when your opponent in a daily game, for example 3 days, after full 3days goes on vacation for 8 weeks😡

The problem arises when an emergency occurs, or when you actually do go on vacation; or when you are otherwise hindered from accessing the internet. Although, I have rarely actually used my vacation time, I find it beneficial in such situations; and I am glad not to be penalized with a loss simply because the electricity went out or that I couldn't make it to the library, or a hundred other things that might keep someone from being able to make their move.

We sign up for these games because we WANT to play them, NOT because we want to annoy people whom we've never even met by making them wait.

oke, oke.

But I think in any case, 1 week emergency time will be more than enough.

Does 'vacation abuse' really matter?  I dont understand the problem.  Is it the inconvenience of not being able to finish one game with an anonymous stranger, or is it the rating points that people are whining about?

This is a novel topic than no-one has moaned about before.

People shouldn't have life outside chess.  It's unacceptable to not be obsessed with the game if you play here.

I vote for getting rid of vacations. I play even when on vacation. I have had opponents who would go on vacation, especially when they are losing, as much as legally allowed, which is alot if you are a full member.

Nwap111

I have had it happen in both.

I could use a vacation happy.png

We had to wait till all games finished before being pared.  One reason I do not play in online tournaments unless they are no vacation.

Hahaha, nice clip 'jagged movements'

No. I pay extra money in part because I want to have more vacation time. No one is stopping you from starting multiple games. I believe on PC in the browser you can also select a setting to find a game with condition that no vacation can be used.

Daily chess takes a long time anyway.  If the next round of a tournament takes a bit longer it really doesn't matter.

It's funny how I see some people talking about this as though theirs is the only game their opponent is playing too and they are so important that their opponent goes on vacation mode in all their games because they are losing your one game!

Vacation mode for premium members is far too long.  There's no reason for it to max out at more than 30 days, but that 30 days  is fine with me if someone takes a 30 day vacation in the middle of one of my games.

Nwap111

30 would not be too bad. But  the max is 90 days.

i was in 8 in 9 tournament games and several group match games. Here in California were i lived last month we had FIRE 🔥 EVACUATIONS. We had to leave or home not knowing when we would return.

I don't have a cell phone to use on chess.com. So before my wife and I we left our home with barely  anything to take except one suitcase, i resigned on all the chess games. . .

I could have used vacation time but i chose not to hold up the games.

Same thing happened two years ago. . . But then i used vacation on the games .  . . Even when we returned home we didn't have heating or cooking gas nor electricity. . .

I apologized to the groups and independent players before i resigned the games! . . .

Sometimes there are things beyond your control! . . .

Nwap111

I love chess, but somethings are more important.  I would have resigned those games too.  I hope things go better for you guys.

Here is the perfect solution... instead of abolishing vacation, players who do not like it should only accept non-vacation requests and play in no vacation events

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

glamdring27

That's far too simple and sensible!  The people want to moan!  They demand it!

52yrral

Right! There would be no need for meaningless threads if everyone applied simple solutions to things!

Nwap111

No one was complaining.  Someone asked me of my experience, and I was telling him of it.  By the way, being new to chess.com, I did not know there were both vacation and non-vacation games.  Also I think that my point about unequal vacation time is valid.

glamdring27

Definitely 90 days is ridiculous.  I have exactly 3 months of vacation time remaining, which says it all really - I occasionally use a day here or there when I slip into auto-vacation, but apart from that I don't go anywhere near using even 30 days, let alone the 90 that I get.
