NOVAK DJOKOVIC
Is Australia to be about a tennis tournament or to be about Australia's many millions of citizens and their fight against Covid ?
Suggestion: the Australians have their heads on straight ...
and the tennis tournament will be low priority.
But there's no crystal ball ?
Idea: If the tournament starts Monday without Djokovic - and proceeds to the second round - could Djokovic get a 'bye' and start in Round 2 ?
I don't see him getting two 'byes'.
If Round 3 starts 6 days from now with Round 2 complete and he's still not in ...
then its not 'bye'. Its 'good-bye'.
Regarding terminology:
'anti-vaxx' could mean two different things ...
it could mean refusing to be vaccinated -
or trying to interfere with others getting vaccinated - a very different thing.
Some 'anti-vaxxers' may try to maintain that its about a personal 'right' to not be vaccinated ... which could be somewhat phony ...
because citizens of almost all countries have that right and that right is already protected.
Indonesia and the Vatican (Holy See) require vaccination for all citizens last time I checked (unless you have an exemption)
but in most countries - its not compulsory. You might need it for various jobs or to enter various places - but that doesn't have to mean its 'forced'.
Often - these discussions degenerate into semantics battles -
and its like we're here to serve the words and the dictionary instead of them serving us.
Don't let it ! 'Forced' will mean whatever according to who decides to see it whatever way.
In discussions of sensitive subjects -
anybody can try very hard to make the discussion about those who post - instead of considering what is being said.
The actual issues. Whoever - wants it to be about who is posting.
Takes various forms. 'You and me'. Ping pong. Personal attacks.
Happens all the time.
The usual advice is 'don't feed it by responding'.
But there's another side to it -
others can post around whoever's doing this - with a particular idea in mind:
Because somebody has made a pingpong post or posts of some kind - then somebody else can post before and after
without making 'two or more consecutive' posts !!![]()
![]()
My opinion: Two consecutive isn't 'nasty'.
It starts getting nasty at three in a row. Or 'column' rather.
(but sometimes nobody posts for a long time)
But 'one in a row' is nice. ![]()
'Nationalism' - supporting their national hero ... versus 'fighting Covid Pandemic - which has now killed over five million people ...
The Serbian president probably very much understands the moral logic ...
but maybe he thinks he has no choice.
Politically. How does he go against the Serbian national hero ?
This kind of thing happens in politics constantly.
There's now an intense suspense as to whether Djokovic will be allowed to play Monday in the first round of the Australian Open.
So next thing: if he's confined back into a quarantine hotel - that means no practicing for the match ...
One could 'worry' about this ! Concern about sports results of other people. Lol ![]()
Is is a little bit like tabloids and actor/celebrity gossip?
Only a little. Worldwide pandemic - hardly celebrity gossip.
Legal court on Sunday - tennis court on Monday ?
Dkjokovic has a big chance to get through on technicalities.
I can almost see it now - judges and politicians forced to watch an awful process unfold and powerless to do anything about it.
Technical details as to whether Djokovic knew something at certain times or was he honest or the correct box on a form was not checked or was it okay for him to be in Spain beforehand ...
all juxtaposed against a worldwide pandemic and a country fighting it and millions dead.
The notion that any of the technical details should matter ...
lawyers making money off it ...
Australia has had 3 years of lockdowns - more than any other country - but not that many deaths. Over 90% of Aussies are vaccinated. We don't want a selfish Djokovic coming in and spreading anything, because he's proved that he doesn't isolate.
I do see Djokovic getting 2 byes - Bye Bye. ![]()
After Djokovic is booted out and gets a 3 year ban, he can come back, if vaccinated, and contest the 2025 Australian Open, although he'll have to go through Qualifying, because he'll be ranked about 580 in the world by then. ![]()

Well said !
And its good to see somebody speaking up for Australia and Australians !!
And from that country too !
Djokovic could still redeem himself by just offering to leave the country now - on his own initiative ... but that seems so unlikely now.
That he would do that.
It would be the one thing - the basic way to show he can choose the greater choice.
But maybe not even one single person close to him even hints at the idea.
It’s funny how he managed to get it just at the right time to stop him being able to be vaccinated. Bearing in mind he would not of being able to be fully vaccinated even if he had the first jab in December. Fellers had a friendly doctor mock up a fake test for him to say he’s had COVID. Why there is even a court case to decide if he can say is a ridiculous idea. Feller is completely nuts.
I believe he had covid proabably the mild one which I had, but he shouldn't have been walking around doing meet and greets with the press when positive, pretty irresponsible.
Ah, Jan 17, so only a few more days. :-)
