I don't like openings like that. Better 1... e5 or 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 then such a passive setup. A mistake is 4... g6, wekening the dark squares and allowing the pin. Then  you blunder a piece by 5...Bg7 and 6... 0-0. After white wins a piece with e4-e5, you should lose the game.

You had luck, that your opponent overlooked the mate in one.
