Must you over-react to a harmless bit of humor in 'off-topic' where pretty much anything goes?  There are forums that moderate such stuff away.  If you are a purist with a stick-up your exit, there are plenty of places you can head to find satisfaction.   If psychic chess masters could digress into a discussion of UFOs, this thread is fair game.

Nothing wrong with an off topic thread now and again, but 6-10 a day?

Pace yourself, this volume of garbage devalues the forums.

Exactly. Not as bad as numbers kid, but bad. He got muzzled, btw.

That's good advice for yourself.  I don't see any standard for 'value' in off-topic, other than your subjective dictum.  Posts that don't get traction float down to the bottom off the list and off the page quickly.  And most days I don't post 10 topics, and if I do, they're paced throughout so they roll off the RADAR quickly, like the UFOs we're tracking, usually.

While I'm sure some agree with you, other's don't mind, and some enjoy it.  But meanspirited control freak trolls abound. Criticism and blame is easy and their's plenty of it.  Those are the least likely people to be objectively introspective and mind to their own failings.  There are all kinds of different kinds of abuses in the forums and even threads in this forum, includings ones you've participated in.  When it comes to achieving your vision of perfection, where do you begin? There are so many battles, no way to shore up the myriad dykes in a torrent of replies by countless posters coming and going.  And what makes your ideals so special that they must prevail over other approaches or points of view?   Save it for a forum that has a specific charter/throttle on # of posts.

Who said anything about achieving anyone's vision of perfection?  I'd simply prefer to have to sift through less crap.

One man's crap is another man's dinner. I think that a lot of the stuff other people enjoy are crap from my perspective.  A thread like this one is totally harmless.  You don't even need to click it.  It was clearly humor related to the 'psychic chess masters' thread which did get a lot of play, and you could have easily skipped it and not throught twice about it if you didn't find it amusing in the way I did.  Oh, and I may have edited the reply you just replied to while you were replying.

From my standpoint, you put it on the menu.

If you think these threads are crap, why do you open them? It's not like the title is "Carlsen vs. Anand" and the first post is about psychic chess monsters. I'll bet most people browsing the Off-Topic forums are just looking for random sources of amusement, and you're making us sift through your intolerence of random threads inside the random threads we were searching for.

As for the topic meant to be discussed, did you mean psychic (chess monsters) or (psychic chess) monsters, the first being chess monsters who are psychic, and the second being monsters who play psychic chess, a new game that has recently become quite fashionable in my neighborhood.

A second serving of crap, please.

SPARTANEMESIS

The oracle at Delphi about 2500 years ago may have been psychic but she didn't play chess and she most definitely was no monster.

corrijean

I've been to Delphi.

It's an interesting place.

If you track the OP, there will surely be more on the way.

I like this post, it opens peoples eyes to the fact that psychic chess monsters do exist. But I don't want to say much more as the 'FB of I' are probably monitoring it for fragments of truth that might slip out...
