Another basic flaw in the rating system is that you can play a long and complicated game against someone only to have them quit playing when they see they might lose. You then win on time but you get nothing for it. Meanwhile they've had a long game and a learning experience. Nothing is gained when you win on time regardless of the expertise you put into the game.

I agree that its not perfect, my rating rose to 1485 in March (when I first started) and despite doing quite well over the last few months I have struggled to get to those heights again..
I might be wrong, but I have won quite few games "on time" and have won points for them?
The question is, what would you replace it with?
As a very new player, I do see the advantage to challenge a higher rated player and then play for a tie to improve my rating.
