It's not embarrassing to me - I don't follow soccer (non-US football) at all. Actually, I don't even follow U.S. sports anymore. (Pele is the only soccer player I've ever heard of, but that was decades ago...)

It was beautiful to see how his teammates build a human wall around him to protect him from camera’s and fans.
It is good that he survived.
