Can you solve it?

My fastest time is 42 seconds.

Around 2 minutes, back in the early 1980s.  My average time was around 3 minutes.

I've forgotten a few of the sequences I memorized, to solve that final layer, so I'd have to dig out my Rubik's Cube booklet that I learned from, and re-read a section of that, if I wanted to solve it again.

did you know any other methods?

Avatar of MrEdCollins

No, I only learned one method.  The book I learned it from even said it was NOT the fastest way to solve the cube.  But it was the easiest method for him to explain/teach and I had no trouble figuring it out.

I had a few other books on it, but those methods were harder for me to understand/learn.  So I only learned the one method.

None of my other friends could solve it.  In fact, no one else I knew ever learned how to solve it!  So I was happy that I could solve it at all.  It didn't bother me if it took me a few minutes to do so.

I remember watching an episode of the television show That's Incredible (Google that, if you've never heard of it) and some kid did it in 26 seconds or something.  I couldn't believe it.  This was before the Internet and I have never seen anyone else solve it before, let alone solve it so quickly.

Millions of those cubes have been sold and I'll bet less than 1/10 of 1 percent of the people who bought them learned how to solve it.  The method wasn't intuitive.  I had to learn from a book.  That's something I never could have figured out on my own.

When I was a teenager I was able to solve a rubiks cube under 1 minute. Had all the moves memorized to heart. Fast forward 15 years and not picking up a cube. I could not remember the sequences to put the last corners in place. What was truly amazing was my hands were able to remember the proper moves even though my brain could not! I think the phenomenom is called muscle memory. Curious if anyone else has had a similar experience.
