Hi checkmate5000; happy to respond to your post.  I have to admit I'm not familiar with rugby, but it would be great if you could the results so I can follow the World Cup.  With the National Football League season beginning this week, that is where the attention of most fans in the States is.  But I know that rugby has a huge following worldwide.  best wishes...

Hey Chessbot. Big Rugby fan here. But bigger Rugby league fan. I believe Australia will win the Cup. Tho i Have obvious bias being Australian. I also believe that South Africa will be very strong and will pose a big challenge to Australia and of course New Zealand who always have the strongest team, but are unable to win the crucial matches. Before the cup started i though France were in for a strong chance but after their effort against the Argies i changed my mind.

I'd like to laugh loudly at Puc_7's predictions and state that England will retain the World Cup, but I think he's probably right. It's very likely that a team from the Southern hemisphere will be world champions by the end of October. Frown

I tend to agree about the southern hemisphere being victorious, tho i would never write off England or Ireland. Sorry to say but Wales are going to be so demoralised by the mighty Aussies i cant see them doing much in the cup haha Wink. It's good to see another Rugby fan tho chessbot3000 and would be happy to continue this converstaion throughout the world cup.

England won't make into the last eight. They will lose all their last three matches the way they are playing now. Who else think so?

Well, that's a lot of predictions gone bad then! Was anyone right?

Australia & New Zealand both out of the cup, England in the final 4; it's been a day of suprises for rugby fans.

I hereby officially and unreservedly apologise to the England rugby side for doubting them.

Couldn't believe France beat the All Blacks. The media coverage in France was amazing for the All Blacks. What were they singing in the pre-game chants?

Sorry about the loss, New Zealand.

Ahh it's great being South African now!!!

It will be a mere formality for the Boks to put England to rest come Saturday.

Dont write us off just yet King william, we havent looked back since you trounced us in the pool. dont forget that game against tonga and fiji, they gave you some trouble.

The wallabies are pretty much a national disgrace. For a sport with such a following here at home. Im just astounded we cant pick a quality side. Anyone familiar with Rugby league would probabaly agree with me when i say our league team would beat our union team at union by a large margin.

Go league, the emergence of Australian Football (soccer), and cricket. Union team has disapointed one to many times.

P.s. Go the springboks. Have to cheer a southern hemishpere team on!

I think that England at their best are the ultimate defensive team, South Africa are second behind the All Blacks at attack. So it will come down to who uses their strengths the best on the day.

Some of my friends wrote England off early. But they are largely the same team who won the last world cup and I wouldn't put it past them, to have been playing possum.

Tight defense in rugby is best IMO. Its just the nature of the modern game.

Stop Johnny Wilkinson. England lose. Its that simple. He kicks there wins. Sorry English Fans but the injury prone little master is your only hope to the win of this cup and near future success.

The U.S. rugby team must be the only sports franchise that actually envy's the minuscule popularity of the U.S. soccer team. Laughing

Im an english sports fan living in Australia, and the night/morning that England beat Australia was the best day at school. I heard a radio host on the radio (surprise surprise) saying that the two teams in the semi's are France and johnny wilkinson with a bunch of guys in white shirts running around him. It was well funny. And the guys only got a 60ish % kick success rate. He is out of form and still kicked us into the final.
