The name of & is ampersand, it was the 27th letter of the alphabet until someone trademarked the alphabet song and removed it, it was called ‘and per se and’ but it got slurred to ampersand, the word ampersand was added to the dictionary 2 years after it was removed from the alphabet, this all happened in the 1800-1900 but the ampersand is over 2000 years old. The ampersand comes from the Latin word et and was written in shorthand to become closer and closer the e and the t until they merged. There are many different kinds of ampersands, including: &, epsilon ampersand (I can’t post it here you will have to look it up), lower case &, and technically the + plus sign evolved from et, so it is an ampersand and literally just a t. IF YOU WRITE YOUR EPSILON AMPERSANDS BACKWARDS I WILL KILL YOU
