When the Wikipedia article for the World Cup has 7 subsections under Controversies, there is an obvious problem

This World Cup wouldn’t just be about football the world has finally seen football as a tool for change and an even a more powerful way to fight for human rights

There are obvious distasteful aspects of the decision to award the World Cup to Qatar, but it's happening so hopefully we can at least enjoy a great tournament with some memorable moments.

That last goal was off side ! 🤷‍♂️,

Sadly during this World Cup instead of instantly celebrating goals and enjoying these moments of joy both fans and players will have to put their emotions on hold whilst a bloke in a van spends 3 minutes deciding if someones kneecap is offside 🙄

I think these are reasons people are more and more going to lower league matches. Less about the money and more about the football. Plus no VAR.

The whole point of football is the agony and ecstasy of the moments when your team concedes or scores a goal. These moments are being diluted and ruined by the VAR process, and what's worse is that if you have actually spent £70 on a ticket and are in the stadium you haven't a clue what is being checked or what is going on. IMO:

1.Goalline technology should remain as it's almost instantaneous and largely very reliable.

2.Everything else should cease.

3.As everything else will inevitably not cease there should be 30 seconds for a decision to be made - any longer and it's not a clear and obvious error by the on field officials.

4.The manager/coach should have 1 review/challenge available in each half (with 30 seconds to make it), similar to the NFL. If they successfully overturn a decision and are proved correct they keep the challenge, if not they lose it.

This was posted because i love soccer. . .

I was a licensed FIFA Referee for 20 years . . .

It's so amazing that many of you can see fouls that trained referee are blind to see. . .

They added the television videos as a means to check some foul calls . . .

A good thing to try is to give everyone in the stands a red flag and if they see a foul on the field sometimes 80 yards away or more they can raise the flag and the game would be stopped.  The game would be stopped and would seldom finish. . . .

Years ago there was a war going in Africa between two countries, They suspended the war for several days because PELE the Brazilian star offered to play in a exhibition match one in each country. Then after  the games, the war continued as before . . .

Once i was the soccer coach of my team playing a match and the ref was not recognizing many calls needed. He allowed a Karate chest kick right in front of him and myself. With my player on the ground he yelled "Play on!" I didn't say a word.

When the game was over, that my team had won, he came over to the side lines returned the player cards and I signed the card. Before he left i said, "Ref this is for you.!" And i raised my RED referee card up so he would see it before he walked away.

He went to the Referee Commissioner and asked if in that league coaches were allowed to card refs.

I got a call from the commissioner "Okay Rich what was that all about?"

The ref was new and he was referring like he did in another league. Later on he changed his method and we became friends and refereed together.

Si ref make mistakes because they are humans . . .

Just enjoy the world cup games. If you can't afford jt watch them on TV.

I didn't go to Qatar because I didn't want to put myself in any harms way possibilities . . .

A final like that would be good. England vs Germany :)

Brazil has named a 39 year old defender. He has a walking stick and may need a wheelchair, but he'll be out there stopping those goals. happy.png
