I only played regular Mario where it’s like a death run with things like power ups for example if you find a egg, it hatches into yoshi and then you could sit on it, and big mushrooms gives you 2 lives.
Well romhacks didnt exist in 1995 however Super Mario 64 did.
Also i've never played a game where a mega mushroom gives you lives. Do you mean a 1-up?
Because a 1-up gives you 1 life
It makes you bigger and when you die once, you go to regular mode
