The Increasing Americanization Of The English Language

We are assaulted daily by American euphamisms, usage and pronunciations. No longer content with adding color to the language with humorous  renditions of "tomate toes" and "a loo min ham".

Walking down the center of the sidewalk last Fall I saw a man getting out a placard from the trunk of his automobile about to protest the same ....We should also...

Time to step up to the plate and say

"Enough Already !"

Thanks for the response I soemtimes think I post in invisible ink Laughing

The term 'Enough Already' is a sickening way to speak English...should be made illegal!

No problem with Americans using it. I just notice a trend amongst TV /radio presenters using it to sound "cool" - ("Cool" another dubious import :-)   )

Another one is we say "appealing against the decision". American English would be "appealing the decision" - another one creeping into usage.

Although of course it's all pretty minor and trivial compared to the really big things that have changed in recent years

I just assumed it was a mistake, since it wasn't the only spelling oddity in your post.

I assume the "Z" in the title was intentional?

Yes...The whole point was to use American English to 'complain', using American figures of speech throughout ...incidentally I'm an Americanphile except for not liking the governance of that great land..

I have to say when someone corrects me for using "s" rather then "z" in words like "realise" I get livid.

One guy did it to me 3 times on another site....even after I explained to him we use a slightly different English...

I blocked him lol.

Do you know WHY the language is different?

*apparently*
When the American dictionary was being written they decided that they should get rid of/change certain silent letters as to separate themselves even further from Bristin- at this stage they were a young republic and so wanted to re-affirm they're distance from the U.K.

My English teacher used to resort to violence when we used American words unintentionally.
