I wish this website was as negligent about locking threads where religion is discussed as it is negligent about protecting its users

Is this where 2 negatives make a positive?
The users on this website are lame. There, I said it. No self respect. Here's my proposed solution, mysteriously absent from the site feedback where I posted it.

Chess.com, serving the lowest common denominator since 2007 or whenever
They weren't always like this. Also the demographics have changed and the site just hasn't kept up
Someone has to come up with the billion-dollar ideas around here, and I guess I'm that guy
Not to fear! Chess.com has it all under control...
They certainly have their users right where they want them: unable or unwilling to impose consequences on the website and assert their rights and demands
What it comes down to is that they don't care enough about the forums to do anything, or at least urgently. If you think about it, the forums and the social side of this site are meaningless to them, and not where they make their money at all. So... they just brush it to the side and leave us to report them.
I think you're wrong about that. The website profits immensely just from giving the appearance of having a vibrant community. That makes casual users think the website offers more than it actually does. When you investigate the 'activity' that the site boasts of to its investors, you find out what it really is: kids posting spam threads and bot-like accounts designed to stimulate waning interest. You're an asset to the company; makes it look like they actually have a dedicated, purposeful user-base.
You're probably right. I guess the forums section was just implemented to, as you said, make the site look as if it has a large and growing community. However, I don't think that anyone who looks at chess.com will ever care about the forums, and more so to see if it's a suitable online chess site. But with the crazy number of cheaters and new accounts that can be made so easily, I wouldn't say it's going too well for them in that department as well.
I just don't understand why you have to ignore these forums to be able to enjoy the website. Because there's nothing really enjoyable about being sitting ducks for the kind of trolling attacks we've been having lately.
Most people here don't even find the "forums" tab. If they do, they check it out, laugh, and leave it alone. People here are here solely to play chess, usually. There are a few people that enjoy the forums like myself, but that's not the case for most people here. And that's why it's not much of a priority for chess.com to fix.
People are curious. I would wager that people usually look at the forums at least once. It's only the abnormally inquisitive that get full on sucked into them though, I'll grant you that.

You might be right. And yes, not many people get sucked into being active here, which is why people come and go, and only a fraction of the users is active here.
They say they're doing something about the recent trolling spree we've been seeing. Maybe in a short time, we'll see changes and updates they've made to stop this from happening.
