The State of the Forums or Down the Rabbit Hole

Not sure if I’ve made a blunder by mentioning the name of this person, Personally I don’t see it has naming and shaming 🤷‍♂️
TheHarbingerOfDoom
That’s what I mean, he only said something nice to bait others in to being nasty and then poured fuel on the fire.

Batgirl must be able to see that. Is she winding us up? Lol

Lol 😂......I hope not ! ......btw I thought it was so disrespectful of Princess to insinuate that I’m over fifty years old 🙀.......what a bloody nerve ! cos last December I reached the ripe old age of 44 😹

The thread you site in the OP clearly looks like a trolling thread to me, opening the door for public shaming. I have to disagree that it was innocuous. Princess San's aka Colby Covington's  modus operandi is to appear like he's complimenting members when he's actually trying to embarrass them. It's rather insidious.

Well I always thought you were younger than that...

"While they had been declining, mostly due to the influx of juveniles," This statement is unduly harsh and misdirected.  In six years that I have been here the single biggest disruption especially in the past 2 to 3 years has been the overexuberance of political viewpoints thrust into every thread.  Juvenile threads are easy to detect.  That kids intrude where they have no knowledge is annoying but does not come close to the radical and insulting posts from political extremists in nearly every conversation.

Festerthetester

Perhaps the next disruptive thing on my list is the assumption that any account less than X years old has no right to post anything anywhere.

once_mike_skinner

the forums, lol.

To each his own, but I would rather deal with someones political views.  At least that gives me something to think about.  As opposed to some child's post about why wasn't their move labeled "brilliant" or "I played my first brilliant move!!!" or "My opponent cheated because they have a CAPs score of...." or "I have played 5000 games of speed chess.  Why cant i improve?"

I almost miss the days of people posting about how aggressive and tactical they are.  Ahhhhh....the good ole days.  Even 2Q is preferable to the garbage being posted now.

You have the right to post whatever you want, but it’s courteous to show a little respect to those who have contributed to the site for an extended period of time and to your elders.

Also you don’t need to have a confrontational attitude. Common courtesy and politeness will probably get the same reaction back towards yourself.
TheHarbingerOfDoom
Your right teacher, and you can also discern those who can formulate an opinion and express it in a comprehend able way, actually trying to engage someone in a conversation rather than just ‘win’ an argument

I disagree.  While they had been declining, mostly due to the influx of juveniles, they were still viable as long as a certain standards continued being exerted.  The difference now is that there is no standard other than the religious and narrow adherence to the "no cheating discussion" rule with the mindless, non-discriminatory auto-mods handling the rest.

You hit the nail on the head Batgirl!

Of course being a forum mod on the site is like being a life-guard standing on a beach trying to stop a tsunami.

stop being so dramatic.  you're ignoring several details about actual tsunamis if you're willing to make this comparison.

Pulpofeira

Eh, well, I think he realises that.

"Your elders" here is not so easy to identify.  Childish remarks come from all age groups where I can discern age.

Subtle manipulation has always been his tactic. However, more people can play the game.
