There's a Laxative Shortage in the USA

I just read a news article about a laxative shortage in the USA. There have to be some really good, snarky comments about it, but I can't come up with any at the moment. Please help...

It was bound to happen. So many people are so full of __it they probably eat laxatives like M&Ms.

(fun fact: an underscore shifts position when italicized)

(another fun fact: you're going to try that, aren't you?)

They gave 5 or 6 reasons; A couple of them just sounded like wild guesses. They did say that some people are using laxatives strictly for weight loss, which is total insanity. Another reason given is that some people taking GLP-1 meds are getting constipation and then taking laxatives. Anyone taking GLP-1 for weight loss doesn't have both oars in the water, imo. Not only is it very expensive, but there are lots of side effects, and they're just guinea pigs for the new drug that hasn't been tested enough.

With so many retentive people, I guess the supply cannot keep up with demand.

I read another news article about a week ago where Sharon Osbourne regretted ever starting down the road of taking GLP-1 for weight loss.

From what I've heard, in addition to all the other side effects, the weight that you do lose isn't ideal. Yeah, you lose fat, but you also lose muscle. And it's well known that muscle loss is one of the main indicators of a shortened life span.

That’s not good. Most people (male or female) start to experience muscle loss anywhere from 30–40 years old and it gets worse approaching 60’s. And she has to be pushing 70 by now. Whatever plastic surgery she’s had probably isn’t helping either.

I don’t know what glp-1 is but looking it up at a glance doesn’t look so good.
There’s no magic shortcut when it comes to health.

From Wikipedia: "Fentanyl's most common side effects, which affect more than 10% of people, include nausea, vomiting, constipation, ..."

Maybe the fentanyl crisis has some effect.

That sounds like a major pain in the butt.

People need to relax and get a fibre connection

Avatar of EscherehcsE

I don't know, man. Yeah, I hear the mainstream advice about needing to eat a lot of fiber. But on keto, I eat almost no fiber, and I never have any constipation. (I used to eat a lot of salads on keto, but I've cut back to almost no salads in recent years.)

The Yorp gut may differ from a human one. Even a human's differs from another human's

A hot water 💧 bottle is the only laxative I need - oops, was that TMI? 😖

The flow of laxatives is indeed not going smoothly

Some might even call it constipated
