I wonder if all these thousands of troll threads are why the site keeps crashing constantly and it takes forever to load the forums at 5 bars.

Which "troll threads" are you talking about?

1. This is not a troll thread, since chessdotcom closed comments under above mentioned articles, this is a place to continue reasonable discussion.

2. I am not a "dummy", so I reported you for verbal abuse.

3. If you do not want to participate, go somewhere else.

Giving my two cents, though beware that I haven’t actually read those articles yet so I will later today and comment again maybe.

Imo, chess was going to get a lot of these allegations anyways. However, I don’t think it was healthy that CC locked the comments considering that the comments section was the ONLY place (besides here of course) that we can do constructive criticism with other players, on chess.com.

If you’re too lazy, TL;DR: Me no read article, me think CC lock wrong, me say this the only place to have constructive criticism.

Allowing only moderators and staff to comment assures politically correct posts.

It makes no sense. Gender should be totally irrelevant in chess, whether the gender is real or imaginary.

It also prevents abuse and bigotry in the article comments surprise

Pure garbage Martin.

If that's the case then shut every one of these forums down.

It is cowardly.

Not pure garbage. The Articles, being posted by staff, generally have more eyes and exposure. Therefore, when the comments start on a downward trend, locking can be the best option.

The FIDE/transgender thread got closed at 500 posts, and there wasn't anything particularly heated in the most recent posts to induce a thread lock, so my own guess would be that the forum board software autolocks at 500, a nice big round number. I'm in a couple other forums where the staff typically closes threads at a thousand posts.

So, staff opinions get more protection from differing viewpoints.

Staff determines what a "downward trend" is.

Locking is the "best option" to guarantee chess.com's doctrinal purity.

Got it.

There's one point which keeps coming up which I want to talk about, and it's why so many of these alleged sexual harassment and assault incidents remain unreported for so long. Some (but not all) reasons for this are:

- lack of physical evidence so it becomes “my word against his”

- unwillingness to force yourself into the public eye

- social stigma for victims

- incompetence of investigators

- worried that they'll be accused of lying

- embarrassment

- wasting police time because “not serious enough to report”

- don't want family/friends to know

- fear of the justice system

When someone does come forwards, it often triggers many others to do the same since they are no longer alone.

Martin, are you for real or are you trolling?

Nah there are threads that go on way longer

Good point. Just skimming I see some thousand-plus post threads.
And the closed ones, I see mod notes explaining why. Quite disappointing that that particular thread was closed with no explanation.
