If a tree falls in a forest, and no one is around, does it make a sound?

Yes

I don't think it does

Still a whole tree falling down

but no humans are there to experience the sound

We can test this by putting a camera there

Just no one can hear it doesn’t mean it didn’t make a sound. That’s like saying if I didn’t see a certain car, it mustn’t exist

and by definition, a sound is something that is perceived only by humans

No one could here it, doesn’t mean I don’t make a sound

Well, in your scenario, you are a human, and you are the one making the sound. The condition in the tree scenario is that no living things are around

existing is different from hearing. It's like you're saying 1 is the same is 3

It isn’t?

Yeah, cause the squirrels definitely heard that crash

Avatar of Flow3rb0y
It’s quite literally impossible for there to be no life whatsoever in a forest
Avatar of HRIsAfraidOfMe

If no one hears the crash, there’s no proof it happened, so it’s unknown. But since we always hear a sound when a tree falls, we assume it still makes a sound even if no one’s around. Then, maybe the tree only makes a sound if someone’s there to hear it...

the tree does not make a sound.

a sound is a concept formed by your brain, because your ears detect the vibrations in the air.

it makes vibrations, both in the ground and the air, but that is not sound.

again, the sound is made up by our brains, and other creatures brains, and therefore is not truly real

Maybe, but then we’d all be schinzos

You're being picky about the word "sound", but the core of the OP's question can be rephrased as: "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around, does it make a vibration?"
And then, the question still leaves room for debate...

By no one, I mean no living thing that can sense sound

The definition of a sound is: "

.
vibrations that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach a person's or animal's ear."
