What are you eating (or drinking) right now?

I can say, from past experience, that chessplayers tend to have atrocious diets.  Some of it comes from being a starving student.  Some of it comes from abject poverty.  Some of it comes just not caring much about what you are consuming.

It has been said that coronary artery disease is an occupational hazard for chess professionals.  Just looking at pictures of some of today's top players, I'd say obesity is common.

Let's see if we can't improve our health, while we improve our games, with an honest look at what we are eating and drinking.

Fair enough?

I'll start.  I had a Caesar salad and some pepperoni-Canadian bacon-pineapple pizza tonight.  Salad good, pizza, not so good.

Typical Spanish meal here in Lanzarote: Egg, beans and chips.

With the strong Hispanic influence here in southern California, one of the things my family liked me to make were homemade "breakfast burritos."

Scrambled eggs, chorizo (or other soft sausage), shredded Mexican cheese blend, country-style potatoes, pico de gallo, all wrapped in a flour tortilla.

Okay, I know many a starving student survives the college experience eating ramen noodle.  Typically, instant ramen noodles come with a salt-rich flavor packet.  Ramen noodles are very inexpensive, are comprised of carbohydrate starches, and are easy to make (just boil some water or even use a microwave).

But we can do a little better and here is how.

Ahead of time, hard boil some chicken eggs and keep them refrigerated to use as needed.  Slice a carrot, stalk of celery, a radish.  Add the vegetables to the water you are going to boil.  Oh, include the tops/greens - they are entirely edible.

Bring the water and vegetables to a full rolling boil, add your noodles and cook for about three to five minute (or follow the instructions on the package).  Add just half of the spice packet (to cut down on the sodium) or eliminate it all together.  If you have some leftover chicken, shrimp, pork, or beef, thin slice it and add to the ramen.  Slice your hardboiled egg and add it after cooking.

That is an inexpensive way to add to your basic instant ramen to create a more nutritious meal.  You have added protein and addition vitamins and minerals.

Wasn't it JM who recently had a post about diet, etc.?

Maybe you two should talk.  You're both prolific posters and seemingly interested in the same stuff, yet you're always in different threads and never seem to run into each other and interact...bad luck, perhaps.

Maybe kaynight knows, I don't recall him and JM ever really interacting either, but then that may be because JM seemed to go into a lull when kaynight first showed up.

How do I search for other users on this site?

I am not sure I would say I was "prolific"! LOLZ  I have only been on this site for about a week.

@ Kaynight - Gordon Ramsey, the mean chef who yells at children??

You have 144 points in that week, so averaging ~20/day.  Not that there's anything inherently wrong with that.  I would say that prolific is not an adjective that is not out of line, though ;).

Hostess went under...all their products and brands were parted out and sold off, so...your Hostess Twinkies and your Ho-Ho's could be from entirely separate companies, neither of which is actually Hostess ;).

Apollo purchased the company in bk and moved the product production to non-union locations and the company has been enjoying the "sweetest comeback ever."  The only product that I have not seen brought back are snowballs.

Why would they bring back snowballs, those things are maybe the worst food ever packaged :)...

The Hostess "cake foods" went to one company, the rest of the their stuff went elsewhere (or is gone).

Try eating a snowball upside down (the food not you). The marshmallow shell will act as a bowl.

Who needs a bowl?  My best friend used to just squeeze them and jam the entire thing in his mouth at once.
